Coffee style that can only be found in Nagoya
Hand drip coffee, Ogura toast, morning breakfast... Newly built, yet with a nostalgic interior, Café New Poppy is a place where you can enjoy the atmosphere of a good old pure coffee shop. This is what Mr. Bitou had in mind when he opened the shop.
Mr. Bitou: "This place has a lot of foreign customers. There are cafes in every country you go to but I think the traditional coffee culture in Japan is cafe. Especially in Nagoya, bread is served even if you don't ask for it, and some of our overseas customers are very surprised. However, everyone is happy to go.
If I were to serve coffee, I would like to do it in a style that is unique to Japan, not something you can find in any other country. Furthermore, when it comes to styles that are unique to Nagoya, it was my family business of cafe. ”
From coffee production to serving
Mr. Bitou is also a wholesaler of roasted beans as "BEANS BITOU. Of course, all the coffee served at "Cafe New Poppy" is roasted in-house. We asked him to tell us about his passion for coffee.
Mr. Bitou: "In creating the store, we definitely wanted to be able to do roasting at the store. Originally, there was a roasting place in Nisshin, but we moved there together when it became Cafe New Poppy. In roasting, we place importance on striking a balance between the roasting temperature that brings out the best in the beans and that allows customers to enjoy their coffee.
Last year, we started producing coffee beans in Timor-Leste. I would like to be able to consistently do everything from the production of beans to the provision at the store. ”
