Summary of Temples and Shrines in Nagoya City Where You Can Get Goshuin

Collecting goshuin stamps (red ink stamps)) has become very popular in recent years. The number of young women who collect goshuin stamps, known as "goshuin girls," is also on the rise, creating a secret boom. Also, once you start collecting the goshuin stamps, which are carefully written letter by letter, many people become captivated.

This time, we visited temples and shrines in Nagoya where you can get goshuin stamps, so we will tell you about them! Please use this as a reference and try collecting goshuin stamps.

What is a goshuin?

Goshuin

The history of the goshuin (red ink stamp) is said to date back to the time when red seals were given as proof of achieving "Shakyo," a copy of a sutra from a temple. It is also said to be a sign of "karma" with the temple or shrine you visited.

The seal is not only stamped in red ink, but is also inscribed with the name of the principal image, the name of the shrine or temple, and other information in ink. There is a wide variety of seals, from simple seals to powerful seals written with a brush, cute stamps, and seals with a sign related to the temple or shrine.

Goshuincho and goshuin, which used to have a plain impression, are now becoming more colorful and rich in design for each temple. It's easier for the younger generation to get started.

In fact, many people do not know what to do with the goshuin they collect. What do you do with the goshuin you have collected? The role of goshuin is fulfilled when they are placed in the coffin after one's death.

No one has ever seen the afterlife, but it is said that they will be judged by ten kings, and finally, whether they will be sent to heaven or hell by Enma the Great. This goshuin will help you there!

By showing the goshuin, the training you have accumulated during your lifetime will be recognized by King Enma, and you may be sent to the heaven. Therefore, let's keep the collected goshuin carefully by placing them on the household Shinto shelve or Buddhist altar. If you don't have one, keep it in an elevated, clean place in your home.

There are 3 types of goshuin stamps for Atsuta Shrine | Atsuta

Atsuta Jingu Shrine

First, I headed to worship at Atsuta Shrine. Atsuta Shrine is bustling with more than 7 million people every year, and is revered and worshiped not only by locals but also by people from all over the country as the "hometown of the heart."

You can get 3 types of goshuin in the precincts. When you receive the goshuin, be sure to cleanse yourself with water and visit the shrine before receiving it.

Goshuin of Atsuta Shrine

Goshuin of Atsuta Shrine

At Atsuta Jingu, it is called "Goshinin" instead of "Goshuin". First of all, I had it at the shrine office right next to the worship hall.

Goshuin is generally priced at around 300 yen. At Atsuta Jingu Shrine, it says "Okimochi", so if you pay 300 to 500 yen, there is no problem.

Besides, it's very simple. "Hohai" written on the right side means "I worshiped respectfully".

Kamichikama Shrine

Kamichikama Shrine

Next, I received the goshuin of "Betsugu Hakkengu" and "Kamichikama Shrine".

As a separate shrine of the Atsuta Jingu Shrine, the "Betsugu Hakkengu" is treated differently from the other regent shrines. It is located just to the left of the main southern gate, facing south.

Kamichikama Shrine is located in front of Betsugu Hakkengu. On both sides, Okuninushisha (Daikoku-sama) and Kotoshiro-nushisha (Ebisu-sama) are enshrined, so it is recommended to visit them together.

You can get the stamps of both shrines at the office next to Kamichikama Shrine. This goshuin is also very simple! I feel a freshness that doesn't flatter goshuin collectors at all.

”Akihasan Entsuji" protects you from fire-related disasters | Atsuta

Akihasan Entsuji

"Akihasan Entsuji" next to "Atsuta Jingu" is also a shrine that is very beneficial, so we would like you to visit it as well.

It is affectionately known as "Akiba-sama" by the locals, and it is said that the god of fire, "Akiba Daigongen," protects from fire-related disasters. It is said that there are other benefits of "fortune, treasure, wisdom, and life extension".

Akihasan Entsuji

The Entsuu-ji temple offers goshuin written in black ink and write-on type at the designated boot. This day was the day of the "Write-on type". The back of the goshuin is a sticker, so you can stick it on.

It seems that the design of the goshuin changes according to the season. It's a very nice design that feels autumn!

Be sure to visit Atsuta Shrine as well.

Ieyasu Tokugawa is enshrined
"Nagoya Toshogu Shrine'' & "Fuku Jinjya'', the god of prosperous business|Marunouchi

Nagoya Toshogu Shrine

A five-minute walk from Marunouchi Station on Nagoya Municipal Subway Sakuradori Line is Nagoya Toshogu Shrine, where Ieyasu Tokugawa is enshrined. There are about 130 Toshogu Shrines in Japan, and Nagoya Toshogu Shrine is one of them.

When you think of Toshogu Shrine, you may have an image of a gorgeous and luxurious shrine like Nikko Toshogu Shrine, but Nagoya Toshogu Shrine has a calm atmosphere that makes it hard to believe that it is located in the middle of the city.

There is also Nagoya Shrine next door, so it is recommended to visit them together!

Fuku Shrine

Fuku Shrine

In the precincts, there is also "Fuku Shrine" enshrined, which enshrines Okuninushi no Mikoto, a member of the Seven Lucky Gods and a prosperous business.

Fuku Shrine

Look at this! Here are the red seals we received. On the right is a goshuin for Nagoya Toshogu Shrine, and on the left is a goshuin for Fukujinjya, a regent shrine located within the shrine's precincts. You can get a red seal for both shrines for 600 yen.

Of course, either (300 yen) alone is acceptable!
