Table of Contents
This summer, the lingering heat is likely to continue. Would you like to be healed with cold Japanese sweets?
Therefore, this time, we will deliver "5 cool Japanese sweets that you can eat in Osu". From sweets from long-established Japanese confectionery shops to fluffy shaved ice, we have picked up the theme of "Wa (Japanese)".
Plenty of Sweet Chestnuts from Tianjin!
Imai Souhonke "Chestnut Soft"
First, we visited the Banshoji Main Store of Imai Sohonke, which was founded in 1906. The location is about a 5-minute walk from Kamimaezu Station on the municipal subway.
A long-established chestnut specialty store that has been importing, processing, and selling Tianjin chestnuts since its founding. The store sells chestnut-based products such as Amatsu sweet chestnuts and chestnut manju.
One recommendation is the chestnut soft ice cream "Kuri (Chestnut) Soft".
The cream uses plenty of Imai Sohonke's proud sweet chestnuts. In addition, it is a soft cream that is irresistible for chestnut lovers, with “Kurimitsu” containing sweet chestnuts on top of the cream. The sweetness and aroma of chestnuts fills your mouth. The sweetness is modest, so you can enjoy the original taste of chestnuts. The point is that the ice cream cone is made of langue de chat!
They also have chestnut shaved ice made with sweet chestnuts, so be sure to check them out as well.

I would like to introduce another long-established soft serve ice cream.
Kakien is located in Osu Shopping Arcade, a 2-minute walk from Kamimaezu Station on the municipal subway. A tea specialty store that has been in business for over 60 years. They offer freshly made tea at a reasonable price by in-house roasting and in-house processing. At the storefront, the hojicha is roasted in-house, so the delicious scent of tea is a landmark.
Kakien also has a sweets shop, Amakobo.
We would like you to try the "Matcha soft serve ice cream".
The soft-serve ice cream is made by adding stone ground matcha and mixing it with a special machine. It's refreshing, so it's perfect for a break on a hot day!
You can also taste tea from Kakien and mitarashi dango (Sweet soy sauce dumpling).

Nayabashi Manju Banshoan "Nayabashi Cube"
"Nayabashi Manju Banshoan" was founded in 1886 and is located on Banshoji Street, a 2-minute walk from Kamimaezu Municipal Subway Station. A long-established Japanese confectionery shop known for its famous Nagoya confection, "Nayabashi Manju", which boasts a history of over 100 years.
From such a company, sweets with a new texture were born this summer.
Here it is! It is "Nayabashi Cube".
A cold Japanese confectionery made by making a paste of bean paste and skin of Nayabashi manju, adding kudzu, and hardening it into cubes so that it is easy to eat while walking. You can eat it at room temperature, but we recommend freezing it. You can enjoy the texture that changes depending on the temperature, from a cool and chewy texture to a springy and soft texture.
The gentle sweetness of the red bean paste and the cold texture will soothe your body on a hot day.

Taiyaki Shop's Cool Sweets
Naruto Taiyaki Honpo "Ice Monaka"
"Naruto Taiyaki Honpo" is a popular "Natural Taiyaki" restaurant on Niomon Street in Osu. Here, taiyaki is baked using the old-fashioned icchoyaki method, which is also called “natural”.
Even at such a taiyaki shop, you can enjoy cool sweets.
Matcha ice cream is sandwiched between crunchy monaka made with bamboo charcoal. The ice cream has a crispy, nostalgic texture. It goes well with the red bean paste. It also has a vanilla flavor.

Ice shop Kawakyu's "Shaved Ice"
Speaking of summer, we can't forget the shaved ice.
