First, head to the Nationally Designated Important Cultural Property, the Former Oto Family Residence.

The former Oto family residence was dismantled and relocated from Miboro Azakamido, which is located about 10km south of the current Shirakawa-go village. With a width of 21m, depth of 12.3m, and height of 13m, it is one of the largest gassho-zukuri buildings. It is also designated as a national important cultural property.

On the munefuda, it was written that the construction of this "Oto family residence" took 13 years from 1833 to 1846.
