I came to Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens!

A 3-minute walk from Exit 3 of Higashiyama Koen Station on the Higashiyama Subway Line. Access is excellent, taking about 18 minutes by subway from Nagoya Station. If you take the subway Higashiyama Line "Hoshigaoka Station", it's a 7-minute walk from Exit 6. If you want to go to the botanical garden, "Hoshigaoka Station" is convenient.

There are 1,600 parking lots, but it is expected to be crowded on weekends, so using the public transportation is recommended.

A Thorough Report on How to Enjoy Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens!

Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens has a zoo, a botanical garden, and an amusement park, but let's go to the zoo first!

The site area of the zoo is 32.21 hectares. It is divided into two zones: the "Main Park" where popular animals are kept, and the "North Park" where killifish and apes are raised in the hills.

This time, I would like to visit mainly the Main Park and the North Park.

"Sky View Train Main Gate Station" is located right after entering the main gate.

A monorail that connects the entrance to the botanical garden "Sky View Train Botanical Garden Station". You can move a distance of about 800m in about 10 minutes.

A Large Collection of Popular Animals! "Main Park"

The Asian Elephant House "Zoogeum" Inspired by Sri Lanka, the Home of Asian Elephants.

First, to the Asian Elephant House "Zoogeum" completed in 2013!

With an area of approximately 3,350 square meters, it was designed in the image of Sri Lanka, the home of Asian elephants.

Asian elephants are active throughout the day in all four seasons. Elephants like to get wet, so you can see them lively, especially on rainy days.

The Zoogeum is home to four Asian elephants: Walder, Anura, Kosala, and Sakura. The caring Walder is the leader of Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens, who came to the park in 1973!

Inside the building, there are also exhibits where you can learn about the history and ecology of elephants. Elephant feet are so big! The thickness of the skin is said to be 2 to 4 cm.

It is an elephant museum where you can see elephants while learning!

Unfortunately, we weren't able to see them that day, but you can see the elephants up close from this "slit view".

Sleeping like an Uncle in his Holiday? "Red Kangaroo House"

Next, we went to the "Red Kangaroo House" recommended by the staff. It is said that you can see a very unique sight.

Please look at them! He is sleeping like an uncle on his holiday! ! Red kangaroos are nocturnal, so they sleep during the day. I feel like I'm getting sleepy all the way here...lol

The red kangaroo is the largest of the kangaroos. There is a considerable difference in body size between males and females. This is a male red kangaroo with a large body and great muscles!

Let's Go Meet the King of Beasts! "Wa-O-Tube"

Next, we went to the lion house "Wa-O-Tube", which was built in 2007 to commemorate the park's 70th anniversary. This is a facility where you can observe lions up close.

Three lions, Sun, Luna, and Sora, are kept in the lion house. We could meet Sora today, who is the son of Sun and Luna. He is characterized by long face and smooth hair. He seems to have a gentle personality.

Well, I came to the “Red Panda House”, which just opened in March 2021, which I was looking forward to the most this time.

This is the first time in 39 years that red pandas have been raised at Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens! ! Three Shisen lesser pandas, "Zun", "Maruko" and "Rei", came. * May 31, 2021 Reika visits the park

At Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens, four reticulated giraffes are bred. Giraffes are known for their relaxed appearance, but they can actually run at a speed of 50km/h!

The "Bird Hall" is just a short walk from the koala house. In fact, it is a popular spot known only to those in the know.

Inside, you can see about 10 kinds of colorful birds such as Indian peacocks and guinea fowl. And what is surprising is the display method.

Surprisingly, there is no barrier such as a fence or glass between the birds and people. You can see the birds moving around freely at a distance that you can almost reach if you stretch out your hand. Even the staff say it's a mystery why the birds don't come to the aisle.
