"Aichi Museum of Flight" opened on November 30, 2017 (Thursday) on the premises of "Prefectural Nagoya Airport". The theme of museum is to evoke the "admiration for the sky" and to learn and experience "what it means to fly".

The facility is a fun place for families as well as aircraft fans, with a zone for displaying actual aircraft such as the YS-11, a domestically produced passenger aircraft, and the MU-2, manufactured by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and a hands-on corner for children and adults to enjoy.

This time, we will thoroughly introduce the exhibits and highlights of Aichi Museum of Flight.

What is Aichi Museum of Flight?

As it is located on an airport, you can also see planes taking off and landing from inside the museum.

Aichi Museum of Flight is located in Toyoyama-cho, Kasugai-gun, Aichi Prefecture. It is located on the grounds of the prefectural Nagoya Airport, adjacent to Airport Walk Nagoya, a shopping center that was renovated from the former international terminal.

Aichi Museum of Flight aims to awaken people's admiration for the sky, learn about what it means to fly, and let them experience what it means to fly. This is a museum that aims to promote the development of human resources who will lead the industry.

The Road of Beginning

The Airport Walk and the Aichi Museum of Flight are connected by a connecting walkway on the second floor! On the connecting walkway, you will be greeted by a trick artwork of floating airplanes.

In front of the entrance gate, there is a model of the JAS (Japan Air System) MD-90 that flew at Nagoya Airport.

Akira Kurosawa, one of Japan's most famous directors, was responsible for the design of the rainbow-colored aircraft. If you look closely, you can see that the signature is also drawn on the aircraft.

The types of aircraft are named after the movie "Seven Samurai", and seven types are assigned in order.

An entrance like an airplane boarding gate. In fact, just like when you get on the plane, you scan the boarding pass barcode here and pass through the gate.

The inside is exactly the hangar itself! The ceiling is also wide and spacious.

History of "Taking to the Skies"

This is a zone where you can learn about the history of airplanes in Japan and around the world. First, let's learn from the history of humans and airplanes.

In the facility, there are volunteer staff who are very knowledgeable about airplanes. Guided tours are also held on irregular days, so if you participate, you'll be able to hear easy-to-understand explanations about the mechanics and history of aircraft, episodes related to the aircraft on display, and more!

"100 Selections of Famous Aircrafts" where You Can See 1/25 Scale Ultra-precise Models

Here, 100 ultra-precise models of famous aircraft that left their names in the history of Japanese aircraft are exhibited together. Originally, it was displayed in the Aerospace Museum inside the terminal during the old Nagoya Airport era.

It was closed in 2005 when it became a prefectural facility, and it was not possible to see it for a long time, but it was decided to be on permanent display when the Aichi Museum of Flight opened.

Shoichi Tanaka, a model craftsman, worked on the model. Each piece is handcrafted over the course of 20 years. All models are 1/25 scale, so comparing the size of the aircraft and checking it against the historical chronology is one of the ways to enjoy it!

The chairs that are installed for resting were once used on airplanes.

In the library, you can also see valuable books about airplanes.

An orientation theater where you can learn about the history and development of the aircraft industry on a large-screen 3D theater.
