[Meido-cho, Nagoya] Toys, Stationeries, and Snacks at Great Prices! "Hori Shoten"
Meidocho, located near Nagoya Station, has long been known as a wholesale district that sells cheap snacks and prizes.
One such store we recommend is Hori Shoten, which was established in 1950. Celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, Hori Shoten offers a wide range of carefully selected products such as fair-related goods, prize toys, stationery, sundries, and snacks at great prices, making it a must for school events and sales promotions at stores and companies.
This time, I actually experienced the charm of Hori Shoten! In the second half, we held a “home party” using the products purchased at the store, so we will deliver about it too!

I arrived at Hori Shoten!
The location is about a 10-minute walk south from Sengencho Station on the Subway Tsurumai Line. It is within walking distance from Nagoya Station if you work hard. Parking is available, so a car is recommended if you plan to buy a lot.
Since it was just before Halloween, the outside of the restaurant was also designed for Halloween. It was exciting even before entering the restaurant.
*Products change depending on the season.
Began as a candy store and toys
The store has two floors: the first floor has a candy gift corner and bags of fair-related goods and toys, while the second floor has a stationery and toy section.
First, we asked the representative about the history of Hori Shoten.
Mr. Hori: “Hori Shoten was founded 70 years ago. It was in 1950. The company was founded by my grandmother, who purchased candy in Nagoya and sold it in Tokyo, and toys in Tokyo and sold them in Nagoya. As we adapted to the changing needs of our customers over time, we began to sell fair-related products, children's daily necessities, toys, and snacks. Nowadays, we are often used for company events and school events.
Since it is a wholesaler, there are large lot items, but there are many items that can be purchased from one piece. One of the strengths of being a wholesaler is that you can purchase items at 20% to 35% off the regular price, and you can also create original outfits according to your budget. ”
Go to the 2nd floor where stationery and toys are available!
Now let's take a look around the store! Let's start from the second floor.
Going up to the second floor, you will find a wide variety of daily necessities, stationery, and toys. Popular characters, unique items, and many other items will make your child want to have them all, and will capture their hearts.
The number of stationery is also amazing! It's a nice point for mothers to be able to purchase at a discounted price. Some of them can be purchased for less than half the price, so it is recommended that you look for them as if you were finding a bargain.
They also have a wide variety of character goods popular with both boys and girls. Since many of the staff members working at the store are mothers, they are sensitive to the latest trends. They are always listening to customers' requests for items they would like to have, and they have a full lineup of products.
Perfect for gifts! Stationery set
Editorial Team was particularly impressed by the stationery that was packed one by one. For example, here, a notebook, a pencil, and an eraser are sold as a set. Perfect as a gift for friends or as a prize for a children's party.
This set includes a pencil, notepad, and eraser.
Some were wrapped like candy using a hand towel and a pencil. Would it be cute if I always combine this with this? Would a child be happy with this and that? The staff wraps each item one by one through trial and error. These sets are filled with love.
At the toy section, there were many things you could buy for under 1,000 yen! What is such a good price for such a thing? There are also some amazing bargains to be had. For more details, please check at the store!
There is a wide variety of congratulatory gift bags. Since congratulatory gift bags cost a lot more money than you might think, it is gratifying to be able to purchase them at a discount.
From nostalgic toys to party items on the 1st floor
Next, let's go to the first floor! Here, you can find items and snacks that are indispensable for fairs.
Nostalgic Showa toys. Isn't it all new to modern children on the contrary?
Wow, nostalgic! This is a toy mount that is often found in candy stores.
"Exclusive snacks gift" that makes you smile
Exclusive sweets gifts are also recommended. They have a variety of sweets gifts to match the theme.
There were also such items as these! "Aichi delicious bento" filled with snacks born in Aichi, and "Delicious onigiri (rice ball)" in a wooden bark funa-zara (dish), a perfect travel companion or field trip snack.
Please feel free to consult with them about your requests!
Ta-da! The extremely popular "Treasure Box Series". The "Treasure Box of Resurrection" contains a lot of snacks that can be used to revive yourself when you feel like "I'm screwed..." This is a great way to get both adults and children excited!
In addition, there is a "Treasure Box of Hyakuninriki (100 man power)" that contains 100 "Umaibo (snack in shape of a stick", and a "Treasure Box of Recovery" that contains a lot of snacks that will restore your physical strength when you are tired. We admire the variety of ticklish naming and variations, such as "Boku no treasure box (my Treasure Box)," which includes one set of candy gifts plus nine different toys.
The design of the treasure chest was also devised from scratch in-house. Isn't Hori Shoten amazing?
Ever since I entered the store, my heart has been tickled.
