A 7-minute walk from Hongo Station on Nagoya Municipal Subway Higashiyama Line. Opened in October 2019, “nichibo” is a curry and cafe restaurant that proposes meals that incorporate spices.
This time, we asked Mr. Naohiro Hori about the history of the opening and popular products.
What is "nichibo"?
The front of the store is wide open. Thick, solid wood is used in abundance. While the wood is warm, the fresh light green of the plants in the store brightly welcomes visitors.
The day we visited was a beautiful day and we could feel a pleasant breeze inside the restaurant. The restaurant has an open feeling like a terrace, and each seat is spacious, with a relaxed atmosphere and pleasant music.
There is also a private room in the back.
The open kitchen, which is connected to the counter seating, including the stove and serving work tables, was lively from start to finish. The aroma of spices wafting through the air whetted my appetite.
It was a weekday daytime visit, but it was crowded with customers enjoying curry.
Meals that provide health
The restaurant's best seller is "Today's Curry" 1,500 yen (tax included). If you order "aigake", you can enjoy two types of curry. It will be available from the end of May.
The aroma of curry wafts from the kitchen, and the mouth is perfectly ready to eat curry.
It is also nice to be able to watch them cooking in the open kitchen, an open space.
The curry is aptly described as "eating vegetables," and the well-cooked curry blends in nicely with it. The spices are fully present, yet mild.
The crispy texture of lotus root and the refreshing flavor of lemon are perfect for this season.
In addition, marinated carrots, mitsuba, and cumin marinated cabbage and red cabbage are accented with sourness. I ate it all while enjoying curry and garnish.
What I would like to mention is that the brown rice produced in Aichi prefecture is cooked so softly that you might think it is white rice.
In the showcase next to the cash register, desserts are displayed to enjoy after the meal. The cakes handmade in the store are moderately sweet.
I would like to enjoy a moment after a meal while enjoying it with a special drink such as coffee or sencha.
Curries, side dishes, drinks, and desserts are also available for takeout. It seems that they are accepting both over the phone and at the store, so if you are interested, feel free to contact me.
