Sauna & Capsule Fuji" (men-only), a famous sauna in Nagoya, located in Nishiki, downtown Nagoya, will reopen on July 7, 2022. With an additional sauna room, it has become an even richer place to spend your sauna time. The swimming pool is still there!

Extraordinary space that spreads underground
"Sauna & Capsule Fuji" is located between Hirokoji-dori and Nishiki-dori, the main streets of Nagoya. Since its opening in 1997, it is a long-established store that is constantly visited by men seeking healing.
The front desk on the first floor has a bright atmosphere. The locker rooms are spacious. It is also equipped with large lockers for suitcases and other items, so it would be good to use them during business trips or vacations.
First, change into the clothes stored in this locker and move on.
The first feature of “Sauna & Capsule Fuji” is the large-scale healing space that spreads underground. You can go straight to the bathhouse on the 4th basement floor by elevator, but let's go down the stairs one floor at a time.
On the second basement floor, a theater-like restroom awaits you. The gap between the bright atmosphere of the front desk is so large that you are suddenly overwhelmed.
For the time being, let's take a break after taking a bath and go downstairs.
Then emerges the bathroom on the fourth basement floor. Like the restrooms, the space is like a theater, giving you a sense of the extraordinary.
The bathroom has a modern atmosphere due to the renewal in July 2022.
Check out the newly renovated sauna room
Let's take a look at the three sauna rooms in order. First of all, the name is "Otoko no sauna (Real Man's sauna)". The temperature is set at 100°C, the hottest.
Originally a dry far-infrared sauna, it has been renovated to become a Finnish-style sauna where loyly is available.
An auto loyly starts every hour at 30 minutes. The monitor shows images of bonfires and the atmosphere is perfect. At 00:00 every hour, the staff performs an aroma-laulu, stirring the air and then gently elevating each person.
On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, at 18:00, 20:00, and 22:00, there are even more authentic Aufguss events, so be sure to visit!
Next, we will introduce the new sauna room “Komorebi loyly (dappled sunlight loyly)". With this completion, the number of sauna rooms at "Sauna & Capsule Fuji" has increased from two to three.
The setting is 80°C, which is milder than the “Otoko no Sauna”, but there are four levels, so the temperature you can feel is quite different between the upper and lower levels. Find your favorite position.
It is also the only sauna among the three that does not have a TV. Healing music that flows quietly creates a moment of healing.
At the 15th and 45th minute of every hour, the auto loyly starts. The sauna room goes dark for a moment, and the excitement increases.
The "Otoko no Sauna" I mentioned earlier holds a loyly every hour at 00:00 and 30:00, which means that a Lowryu is held every 15 minutes in one of the sauna rooms. Quite high frequency!
The third is "subtropical steam". The existing steam sauna has been renewed, and the scent of new wood is pleasantly drifting. With a setting of about 50°C, you can gradually sweat.
My personal recommendation is the flow of "subtropical steam" → "Otoko no Sauna" or "Komorebi loyly". By being steamed in advance, you can sweat more efficiently.
It may be a good idea to wait here for a while until the wax services start in the other sauna rooms, and work up a light sweat.
By the way, there is a large digital clock (not a 12-minute counter), so I am grateful that I can move at a good timing.
There are two types of water baths: "deep sea water" at about 15℃ and "shallow water" at about 20℃. Another nice point is that there are two water baths with different temperature zones.
"Revitalization time" around the luxurious pool
And the symbol of "Sauna & Capsule Fuji" is the "pool". The patterns drawn on the ceiling are reflected on the water surface of the pool, creating a magical atmosphere.
"Revitalizing chairs" are arranged around this pool. The shimmering surface of the water and the echoing sound of the waterfall - it is as if someone is whispering to you to "fall asleep".
A lazy poolside break reveals how different people use the pool.
Some people enjoy taking cold alternating baths* in a pool with a water temperature of about 25 degrees Celsius, some swim breaststroke with a bit of embarrassment, and some swim stiffly. ......
* A bathing method in which you move to a hot water bath after taking a cold water bath. You can slowly soak in the water bath without difficulty.
How you enjoy it is up to you, but both sides of the innermost waterfall are jacuzzis, so it's recommended that you just walk there. It will be good exercise.
When we later spoke with the facility staff, they told us that they had given a lot of thought to how to utilize this pool for the renovation. It is true that this space could be used for a variety of other purposes.
As a result, this pool will remain as a symbol of "Sauna & Capsule Fuji". I personally think it was a good decision.
Beer and sauna food
One of the most enjoyable things to do after a sauna is to eat. At the Fuji-no-Hana restaurant on the first basement floor, you can enjoy a wide variety of a la carte dishes, noodles, rice bowls, and other dishes. You can also enjoy Nagoya specialties such as "Miso Kushikatsu (skewered pork with miso sauce, 550 yen)" and "Tebasaki (chicken wings, 550 yen)".
My favorite is the seat for one or two people, sitting facing the TV. Sitting cross-legged in your hotel clothes and drinking beer is also the best. Of course, there are tatami mat seats that are perfect for groups!
We recommend the "Unadon (bowl of rice topped with eel" (1,600 yen). The restaurant also offers a full menu of eel dishes, including hitsu-mabushi (2,500 yen). When asked why, the owner of this restaurant says that he came from a famous eel restaurant in Nagoya.
The eel is grilled until the surface turns black, and the outside is crunchy and the inside is fluffy.
There is also a sauna-related menu, such as "Loyly Mapo Tofu (780 yen)". When you pour the super spicy sauce into a hot stone pot, you will hear a sizzling sound.
Various spices are blended, and when you taste it after the sauna, you will sweat a lot. It contains a lot of minced meat and is extremely filling.
Check out other facilities!
It should be noted that, like its affiliate Relaxation Spa Apeze, it focuses on relaxation. There are many types of massages, including full-body massage, foot massage, and lymph oil esthetics. The Thai massage was full of atmosphere, matching the dark space of the basement floor and the exotic furnishings.
Capsule rooms are available for 3,400 yen (3,900 yen on Fridays, Saturdays, and the day before holidays, including sauna fee). Even if you miss the last train, it will still be cheaper than going home by taxi!
There are lounges exclusively for capsule guests on the 6th and 7th floors (the 7th floor is a smoking lounge). There is also a semi-private coworking space where you can use your own computer.
And then the overwhelmingly gorgeous rest room!
When we spoke with Kazumasa Ochi, the assistant manager, he told us that this space used to be a disco before it opened as "Sauna & Capsule Fuji. This may seem a bit contradictory, since it is now a "rest room," but there seems to be a reason why this space gives one a strange sense of exuberance.
The building is large and spacious, and I think the appeal of Fuji Sauna & Capsule is that you can spend your time in a relaxed atmosphere," said Assistant Manager Ochi. It is true that many sauna facilities charge different rates depending on the length of stay, but the fact that you can stay from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. with a flat rate is only possible because the facility has the space to do so.
Finally, Assistant Manager Ochi told us that the renewal concept of this time is "Adult's Japanese Modern". We feel that this is a perfect catchphrase for "Sauna & Capsule Fuji," which is trying to build a new modern style while retaining some of the luxurious atmosphere of the early Heisei era.
