[Summary] A Restaurant where You can Enjoy South Indian Cuisine in Nagoya
Table of Contents
In recent years, “South Indian cuisine” has been steadily gaining popularity.
South India is an area that combines the five southern states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
There is a big difference between North India eating wheat flour and South India eating rice. Since South Indian curry is eaten with rice, it is characterized by a lot of water and a smooth texture. There are various dishes that are different from North India, such as the classic South Indian dish "Dosa" and soup-like sambal with the sour taste of beans and tomatoes.
This time, we will pick up and introduce restaurants in Nagoya where you can enjoy South Indian cuisine.

"ERICK SOUTH KITTE Nagoya store"
ERICK SOUTH is a South Indian restaurant located on the basement floor of KITTE Nagoya, right next to Nagoya Station. ERICK SOUTH, which was successful in Tokyo and led the South Indian cuisine boom in Japan, expanded into Nagoya in 2016.
Meals with many dishes on one plate. From the yellow turmeric rice on the left, lined up with Eric's chicken curry, two kinds of daily vegetable curry, sambal, rasam, yogurt, vadai, and uppuma.
ERICK SOUTH 's classic "Eric Chicken Curry". The flavor of the meat and mild curry will whet your appetite.
You can eat it alone, or you can mix it all up at the end and eat it. Another good thing about Meals is that you can enjoy the harmony of various flavors. Rice, sambal, and rasam are free refills, so enjoy them until you're satisfied!

No chemical seasonings, healthy authentic Indian taste!
"South Indian Home Cuisine KARNATAKA"
"South Indian Home Cuisine KARNATAKA" is located in Meito Ward, Nagoya City. Starting with a mobile sales vehicle, we opened a physical store in 2012. This year marks the 10th anniversary.
KARNATAKA does not use chemical seasonings and offers healthy curries that are gluten-free and vegetarian. (Fish and eggs are also available as options.)
For lunch, we recommend the A set, which includes rice, sambal (sour bean and vegetable curry), and chai.
You can choose 3 types of curry from the signboard of the day. On this day, I chose sambal, mixed vegetable coconut curry, and mung bean curry.
All the curries are well spiced but not spicy, and have a gentle taste. They are easy to eat and go down smoothly in the mouth.
Free refills of chai after meals. A mysterious glass that makes a rattling sound when tilted.
There is no other restaurant that recreates India with such authentic flavors and even the style of refills. Coupled with Tsuchiya's character who never stops talking about India, KARNATAKA is home to a core of fans who love India.

Combination of South Indian cuisine and French pastry
"spice & cafe imairo."
"spice & cafe imairo." is located in Tenpaku-ku, Nagoya City, a five-minute walk from Shiogamaguchi Station on the Subway Tsurumai Line. Walk southeast along Iida Kaido from the station, and you will find the store just before the bridge over the Ueda River.
It's a rare combination of "South Indian cuisine" and "French pastry" that you don't often see elsewhere.
Imairo offers meals that use different vegetables depending on the day. Ponni rice (a variety of rice developed by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University) is topped with dal (bean) curry, and on top of that is a crispy rice cracker-like dish called appalam.
They offer sweets that are particular about authentic French taste.
This is a specialty of Nantes, a city in the Loire region of France. A flour and Marcona almond dough with a rum coating. It uses Distillerie A.LEGOLL’s rum, which has a complex aroma, and the moment you put it in your mouth, the scent of rum spreads softly.
Please come and experience the authentic taste that has been carefully selected.
