Prayer for the end of COVID-19

At Tsushima Shrine, they have been praying for healing from the coronavirus every day since March 1st. We interviewed Mr. Keita Nakano, who works as Negi.

Mr. Nakano:E"very morning at 8:30 a.m., we hold the Nikkusai, a Shinto ritual in which breakfast is offered to the gods, and since March 1, we have been praying for the healing of the COVID-19 every day in conjunction with the Nikkusai. We pray for the health of people not only in Tsushima City but also all over Japan and the world, and for the end of the coronavirus. Ujiko-san (people who live in a certain area around the shrine) also pray together in front of the shrine every morning."

– Since around the same time, many people have been visiting the shrine, starting with the awarding of the “Akuyaku Taizan Monfuda” and “Special Goshuin (red ink stamp)”.

Mr. Nakano:"We hope that you will affix the "Akuyaku Taizan Monfuda" at the entrance of your house and ask for the divine virtues of Susano-no-mikoto to prevent epidemics and bad luck from entering the house through the entrance. Up to now, 4,000 "Akuyaku Taizan Monfuda" and 3,000 "Special Goshuin have been awarded.."

– Please tell us about the spiritual spots in the precincts.

Mr. Nakano:"The whole precinct is a spiritual spot, but I would like you to proceed Rokusha-mairi (six shrine) and receive the stronger power of Susanoo no Mikoto."

Rokusha-mairi is to visit six shrines, including the main shrine, Aramitama-sha, Kashiwagi-sha, Nigimitama-sha, Imori-sha, and Hashika-sha. These six shrines enshrine "Takehaya Susanoo no Mikoto,'' the enshrined deity of Tsushima Shrine.

Mr. Nakano: "I hope that everyone will visit the six shrines, each with their own power, and somehow obtain the power of Susanoo no Mikoto in the midst of the corona crisis."

Introduction of Omamori (amulet)

amulet

It seems that there are many people who are looking for amulets to ward off the plague in this time of COVID-19.

Somin Mirai Mamoru

"Somin Shorai Mamori" to exorcise the epidemic

Mailing of prayers, gate tags, and amulets to the general public is not normally supported, but it seems that they will be able to handle it specially until the end of the COVID-19 period. Please inquire at the office for details.

Nishiki Mamoru

If you wish for daily health, "Nishiki Mamori" as an overall protection

Children's fortune

There was also a limited-time "Children's Mikuji" for Shichigosan.

I received Goshuin

Goshuin (Tsushima Shrine)

I received a regular Goshuin (left) and a special Goshuin (right) that I started awarding on March 15th. (fee: 300 yen) The secondary stamp of the goshuin was chrysanthemum. Depending on the season, it will change to a sub-mark of a festival or seasonal flower.

Tsushima Shrine's original goshuin book

I received an original red stamp book from Tsushima Shrine. Tsushima is famous for wisteria. The design of the torii gate and tower gate, which are the symbols of Tsushima Shrine, is applied to the wisteria in pretty colors.

For a safe and secure visit

At Tsushima Shrine, measures to prevent infectious diseases were seen everywhere, such as installing plastic sheets in conferment office.

They are setting up a disinfection stand at the entrance of the worship hall. You can pray in peace.

In addition, the Shichi-go-san (annual Japanese festival to celebrate the growth of children) prayer period usually starts in October, but this year, in consideration of the novel coronavirus, we have moved it up a month and started it in September in an effort to diversify it.

During the Shichi-Go-San Festival, we are handing out masks as souvenirs for children who can pray for the end of the coronavirus.

As a countermeasure against infection, the chozuya has stopped using the ladle that many people touch and has replaced it with a pipe. You can wash your hands and mouth with the water running down the pipe.

According to the idea of the shrine maidens, from November 1st, they will start hand-watering their hands with flowers. The idea is that "I hope more people can enjoy it even in the midst of the COVID-19."

The shrine maidens are updating their Instagram accounts, so please check them out.
