Pools, the ocean, outdoor leisure activities, etc., this is the season when we worry about unwanted hair. However, many of you may have problems such as "hair removal salons are too expensive" "I hear I can't have hair removal because of my weak skin" or "I have to give up because I am pregnant". I am sure there are many people who are worried about this.

For those of you who are like that, I would like you to know about "sugaring", a hair removal method that uses 100% organic natural materials. Ingredients are only sugar, lemon and water! It is very popular in Europe and the United States, and it is a safe hair removal method that even pregnant women can undergo.

For this issue, we asked Yuriya Ishibashi, owner of BRIDGE Sugar & Wax Studio (hereinafter "BRIDGE"), a hair removal studio in Sakae, Nagoya, about the appeal of sugaring.

Stylish and cozy private studio
"BRIDGE Sugar & Wax Studio"

Located at Nagoya Municipal Subway 1 minute walk from "Yabacho" station, exit 1 or 3.

It's a reservation-only private salon, so it's easy for people who don't want to be seen.

First, let me introduce a little about BRIDGE.

BRIDGE is a hair removal studio that opened in April 2018.BRIDGE offers two types of hair removal: sugaring and waxing. Both are different from permanent hair removal and are traditional hair removal methods that have been used since ancient Egypt. Although not so familiar in Japan, both are popular in other countries and are considered as one of the fashionable ways to remove hair, just like going to a nail salon or hair salon.

I want to create a hair removal salon where people can visit more easily

After graduating from Chunichi College of Beauty and Fashion, Ms. Ishibashi worked for six years as a beauty salesperson for a foreign cosmetics manufacturer in a department store. Why did she open a hair removal studio? We asked her how the store came into being.

Ms. Ishibashi:"I always liked making people beautiful. What made me want to open a store was when I was a beauty consultant. When I was touching up customers and listening to their concerns, I often wondered, 'Wouldn't makeup look better if there were less hair on the face?' But of course, hair removal and shaving are not available at the store.

We want to create a hair removal studio that is easy and casual. We want people to feel confident by getting rid of their hair. The name BRIDGE is a reflection of our desire to be a bridge to our customers' beauty."

Hair removal using 100% organic natural materials

Sugaring

Hair removal "sugaring" using 100% organic natural materials. It's still not familiar in Japan, is it? What kind of hair removal method is it?

Ms. Ishibashi:"Sugaring uses 'sugar paste,' which is like a candy paste made by slowly boiling down sugar, lemon, and water. Sugar paste is made only from edible ingredients. It is such a safe and secure hair removal method.

It is a very popular hair removal method in Europe and the United States, and even people with allergies and pregnant women can receive the treatment with peace of mind. ”

Benefits of sugaring

Sugaring

Ms. Ishibashi: “The best thing about sugaring is that it is gentle on your skin. When you apply it to your skin, it melts little by little, and the sugar paste enters the entrance of your pores. It is characterized by low adhesion and less pain.

Our studio also performs waxing, but with less redness than waxing. It is also less likely to cause burns from the heat and less likely to cause problems such as in-flow hair (hair left in the pores)."

Sugaring also has a moisturizing and skin beautifying effect. It is a great way to kill two birds with one stone: safe hair removal and skin care!

Be very particular about what you put on your skin

At BRIDGE, they are particular about not only the sugar paste, but also what they use for the treatment.

Ms. Ishibashi: "For example, we use gluten-free cornstarch (corn flour), which is applied to the skin before applying sugar paste. Many salons and esthetic salons use baby powder, but if you are allergic to it, it could cause asthma. We are particular about the cornstarch we use so that it is safe even if it is inhaled.

We also recommend a skincare product called "ALPSion," whose main ingredient is water, for post-treatment care. After hair removal, the pores are open and more delicate than usual, so the lotion you normally use may smear. alpsion is a skin care that uses alkaline mineral reduced water, so it soothes redness."

I actually tried sugaring!

Sugaring

I'm sure some of you who have read this far thought, "If it's sugaring, I might be able to do it!"

So! This time, we actually tried Sugaring. This was the first time for our staff to experience hair removal, as she had atopic skin when they were little. Will they be able to perform the treatment without any problems?

Counseling before surgery

counseling

First, a hearing sheet is filled out to determine if there have been any skin problems in the past, skin concerns, etc. Then, based on the hearing sheet, counseling begins. The fee is also presented in advance, so you can take the treatment with peace of mind.

changing room

Change your clothes in the changing room and you are ready to go! You don't need to bring anything, so you can stop by on your way home from work or during a gap in your schedule.

Sugaring treatment starts!

Sugaring

This is the "sugar paste" used for the treatment. It has a texture like kneaded candy.

This time, I experienced the "half upper back (nape of neck to shoulder blades)" course. The nape of the neck and around the back are difficult areas to care for by self care.

Apply the sugar paste to your skin.

While stretching the sugar paste, the hairs are entangled. At first glance, it looks simple, but since the ingredients are only sugar, water, and lemon, the paste will dissolve and become sticky without skill.

The pain is about the same as plucking eyebrows with a hair plucker. Of course, it depends on the individual and the area to be treated, but the pain is bearable. If the pain is unbearable, they will give you a break while performing the procedure.

Try Sugaring

after

The line at the nape of my neck is much cleaner! The charm of sugaring is that you can get a good effect even with one session.

<Experience sugaring>

My skin is not strong enough to have skin irritation from cosmetics and allergies to metals. I was honestly quite nervous as it was my first time for hair removal as well.

However, from the appointment stage, the staff was very attentive to my concerns, telling me that we would discuss my skin condition on the day of the treatment and that if the length of the hair was 5 mm to 1 cm, I would be able to remove the hair clearly and beautifully. As I am a worrier, it was quite reassuring to know that the support I received was solid.

During the treatment, Ms. Ishibashi talked to me cheerfully and happily, so I did not feel much pain. There was a little redness immediately after the treatment, but it went away in a few hours. I was told in advance that the redness would go away in half a day to a few days, so I was not anxious.

Now that the nape of my neck is beautiful, I can enjoy updos and open-back fashions. I need to grow the hair out a bit, so I recommend getting it done before the summer months begin!

The ideal is a last-minute temple for "Beauty"

Practitioner and owner Yuriya Ishibashi

Finally, we asked about future prospects.

Ms. Ishibashi: "Hair removal salons in Japan have a high profile image. A person in a white coat removes hair with a machine. I want to eliminate that image. When you want to be beautiful because you are going to the beach, or you want to remove hair because you are going on a trip, you can make an appointment and come to our salon right away. My ideal is to provide a place where people can come to make an appointment and enjoy their beauty. I want to make the hair removal industry more casual and fashionable.

[BRIDGE has an eyebrow professional! ] This is a very popular menu for those who have trouble with their eyebrows.

If you have weak skin, self-care may cause damage to your skin. Having actually experienced the treatment this time, I realized that this is a hair removal method that people with weak skin should know about.

In addition, because Ms. Ishibashi used to work as a beauty consultant, she is able to offer beauty advice from many perspectives. The author also suffered from rough skin on her back and arms, but after listening to Ms. Ishibashi's advice, "First of all, moisturize well," the problem has improved considerably.

It is truly, as Ms. Ishibashi told us, a "run-in temple for beauty". If you are not confident about your skin, please consult with BRIDGE. Let's enjoy summer with beautiful skin!
