Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, is one of Japan's leading production areas for Seto ware. Seto-yaki porcelain is called "Setomono", and is also known nationwide as a common name for ceramics.
When visiting Seto, the town of Seto, we highly recommend "Cafe & Guesthouse Moyaiya," a hands-on cafe and guest house in a renovated old Japanese-style house. In addition to enjoying delicious meals and lodging, you can also experience the uniqueness of Seto through craftsmanship and workshops.
Moyaiya is located in Ginza-dori Shopping Street, located in the center of Seto City. A 6-minute walk from Owari Seto Station on the Meitetsu Seto Line.
The first floor of the renovated 100-year-old house is used as a café and a craftsmanship experience corner, while the second floor is used as a guesthouse.
Parking is available in the guesthouse's own parking lot and in a shared parking lot in the shopping arcade near the approach to Fukagawa Shrine.
An exchange base where you can feel the connection with the region
Moyaiya opened in July 2018. It was created as an exchange center where visitors can feel connected to the local community through three functions: eating and drinking, lodging, and hands-on experience, with "monozukuri (manufacturing)" as its keyword.
The inside of the store is different from the atmosphere of the exterior, and the warm and stylish space spreads out. There is also a gallery in the center where pottery works are displayed, and you can purchase them.
There are table seats, counter seats, and sofa seats in the spacious cafe. You can also enjoy the Japanese-style courtyard from the two raised rooms in the back.
A proud cafe menu served in Seto ware
"If you have come all the way to Seto, we want you to get to know the artists!" With this in mind, Moyaiya offers all of its menu items served on Seto-ware plates.
Of course! You can also purchase the bowls used in the cafe menu inside the store. (Except for some).
Pasta with shrimp and crab entwined in a rich tomato cream sauce. The flat noodles are a perfect match. Besides pasta, you can also have hamburg curry and set meals.
Also, during lunchtime, the last order is at 14:30, so you can relax and enjoy yourself.
You can also enjoy morning breakfast from 9:15 to 11:00.
The nostalgic cream soda is also recommended. There are seven flavors in seven colors! You can choose from strawberry, lemon, mango, melon, ramune, blue Hawaii, and grape.
On this day, we got strawberry and blue Hawaii. The moderately sweet ice cream and soda are irresistible.
Coffee served in the pottery of Seto Hongyo Kiln, a pottery that has been around for about 300 years in Seto. It's a delicious coffee with just the right amount of richness and bitterness.
See it, touch it, use it.

Moyaiya also has a gallery, so you can buy the pottery you like on the spot. Prices start from 1,000 yen and are easy to pick up.
A mug from the pottery "Shin-gama" founded in 1919. The refreshing white and indigo Seto Sometsuke is attractive with its soft and delicate pattern and simple design.
Seto-Akatsu-yaki pottery "Kita-gama Kasen" is a traditional craft. It is a vessel that is easy to use for both Japanese and Western.
There was also this cute knit-patterned mug! It is so realistic that it looks like a real knit.
A product created through joint development by MMYoshihashi, a pottery mold maker in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, and CEMENT PRODUCE DESIGN. Normally, ceramics are decorated by drawing patterns on the ceramics, but here they are challenging the new possibilities of ceramics by engraving patterns into the ceramics themselves instead of drawing them.
In addition to pottery, they also sell pottery accessories and miscellaneous goods, so please try to find one that you like!
