"INAX Museum", a hands-on museum where you can fully experience the charm of pottery [Part 2]

We went to the "INAX Museum "operated by LIXIL in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, the city of pottery. This is a hands-on museum where you can experience the culture of tiles and pottery from around the world.

There are six facilities in the museum, where visitors can not only see and learn about tiles, but also actually touch them and participate in workshops. There is also an Italian restaurant, so this is a spot where you can enjoy the whole day with your family. In this issue, we will give a thorough report on INAX Museum!

First of all, we will introduce spots that are especially recommended for families.

This “Clay and Doronkokan Museum” is a hands-on facility that focuses on the clay that is indispensable for making pottery. Exhibitions and workshops on clay are held in the building where you can feel the warmth of the architecture that uses plenty of clay.

Next to the reception desk, the "Great Tokoname Wall" stretches across the large space, drawing beautiful curves. The curves and corners of the wall give a sense of depth, and the form is finished with a highly difficult plastering technique. (Left side of the photo)

This sun-dried brick wall was made at a workshop held in 2006.

The “Clay and Doronkokan Museum” uses a lot of soil both inside and outside. The adobe walls were made in a workshop. Please pay attention to the building!

The toilet at the back of the building is a hidden popular spot in the "Clay and Doronkokan Museum". The walls and washstand are covered with colorful mosaic tiles. As expected of the tile brand INAX.

A particularly popular workshop is “Making shiny clay ball”. Using a completely different method from making "clay ball" in a sandbox or garden, clay spheres are shaved, colored, and polished to create shiny spheres.

Special exhibition room

The Clay and Doronkokan Museum also has a special exhibition room. At this time, the exhibition "Japanese majolica tiles" was being held.
