Komakiyama Castle Historic Site Information Center
"Rekishiru Komaki"

This is the “Komakiyama Castle Historic Site Information Center”, which opened in 2019. Located at the foot of Mt. Komaki, this is a guidance facility that introduces the results of excavation surveys conducted on Mt. Komaki and exhibits the relics that have been unearthed.

There are exhibition rooms that can be viewed for free, but the admission fee is 200 yen for adults. This is a common ticket for Rekishiru Komaki and Komakiyama Historical Museum.

At the entrance, you will be greeted by photographs of the four seasons, animals, and plants of Mt. Komaki.

Special Exhibition Room/Reference Room

This is the special exhibition/reference room (free area).

The photo shows an excavation survey, showing a presumed restoration model of the stone wall around Komakiyama Castle at that time. I was surprised at the precise work that each stone wall was made by hand!

Castle Theater

This is a floor where you can enjoy images of Komakiyama during the Sengoku period, centering on Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu. When you step on an interesting point on the floor, a related video will be projected.

Stone Wall Model

On the stone wall model floor, the first and second stages of the stone wall confirmed at the summit of  Komakiyama are reproduced in actual size! Along with projection mapping, you can see how the castle was built at the time.

There is also a device that changes the color of the stone in response to holding your hand over it.

Komakiyama Play Base

This may be a very interesting section for those who like castles.

This is a corner where you can actually learn how to stack stone walls.
Komakiyama Castle is an early style of stacking stone walls, and it is a style of stacking almost as it is, without processing it into stones, as shown in the photo.

On the other hand, when it comes to stacking stones in a way called “Kiri-ishizumi”, the appearance is completely different! The processing technology has also advanced, and I admire the technology of the old people here as well. Kanazawa Castle seems to be in this style.

There is also a corner where you can feel the weight of the actual stone! It's considerably heavier than I imagined, so if you're confident in your strength, go for it!

Other Attractions

The main gate of the castle "Oote-michi"

There are several routes to climb to the top of Komakiyama.

Normally, for defense purposes, these main roads are designed to be twisted and difficult to reach, but Nobunaga's road is straight and stretches halfway up.

"Komakiyama Inari Shrine" enshrining the fox Kichigoro

"Komakiyama Inari Shrine" is located on the left hand side after climbing the main road.

Before Komakiyama Castle was built, this area was lush with trees and many herons and foxes lived there. Among them, the foxes all had their own names, and the eldest fox, "Kichigoro," was said to have been a great boss and possessed spiritual powers. Komakiyama Inari Shrine is where Kichigoro is enshrined.

Nobunaga and Ieyasu's Two Castle Stamps

Komakiyama Historical Museum sells two types of castle stamps (300 yen each). The right is Nobunaga's family crest, Boke (Japanese quince) crest, and the left is Ieyasu's family crest, Mitsuba Aoi crest.

In addition, a stamp rally will be held at the four castles of Kiyosu Castle, Komakiyama Castle, Gifu Castle, and Azuchi Castle, titled "Nobunaga's Four Castles Stamp Rally", which is named after Nobunaga. It looks like it would be fun to go around while enjoying the differences between each castle!

In addition, you can try on ninja costumes on Saturdays and Sundays, so if you are interested, please check it out.

Komakiyama has a deep connection with Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu, who were said to be the three heroes of the Sengoku period. How about thinking about this place along with the historical sites?

Komakiyama is also a perfect place for a stroll.
You can see many people taking a walk, but it seems that three walking courses are actually recommended.
Please check the website for details.

Worked for about 9 years at a publishing company that develops wedding information magazines, beauty products, and food and beverage products. After getting married and retiring, my love for travel increased and I became a freelance writer. Due to a family transfer, I went to Fukuoka and Hiroshima, and currently live in Nagoya. Enjoying and discovering the charms of not only Aichi Prefecture but also the three Tokai prefectures. My specialties are shrines and hot springs, and I also love delicious food. We will deliver "new discoveries" to the "normal" of local people.
