[28th of every month] From Antique Markets to Food Stalls, Go to Osu Ennichi!
Table of Contents
The morning market at Higashibetsuin Temple held on the 28th of every month is completely known as a standard event in Nagoya, isn't it? Did you know that in Osu, "Myouon-san Ennichi (fair)" is held on the 28th of every month at Akamon Myouoden and "Antique Market" is held at Osu Kannon?
This time, we will introduce you to the charm of "Osu Ennichi".
Where is the event held?
On the 28th, "Myouon-san Ennichi" will be held around Akamon. Osu Kannon precincts are crowded with many people, such as the "Antique Market" and the "Substitute Mochi-making Service" at Banshoji from 6:00 pm.
At night, Akamon-dori becomes a pedestrian paradise, and various gourmet foods are lined up.
To the antique market of Osu Kannon
First, let's go to the "antique market" held in the precincts Osu Kannon.
The antique market is held from early in the morning until the evening, so it is recommended that you look for bargains at the antique market until the festival is crowded!
They have a wide variety of vegetables and dried foods, so it's fun just to look around.
The antique market will be held twice on the 18th and 28th. In the precincts, retro antiques and bargains are lined up, from rustic tableware and kimonos to cute toys.
It is crowded with a wide range of customers, from old people who like antiques to young people who are looking forward to it every month.
What is Myoon-san Ennichi?
In the evening, the number of stalls gradually increases. Next, let's go to "Daikoin (Akamon Myouon-den)," from which Akamon-dori originated. In addition to the Myouon-san fair held on the 28th of every month, many street performers show their tricks during the Osu Street Performers' Festival held every October.
Akamon Myo-o-den is said to cure women's ailments, so it is also called the "female Buddha."
In the Edo period, prostitutes were allowed to visit Daiko-in Temple as a place to go out, and it is said that many prostitutes visited the temple during fairs. This festival has a very long history!
Normally, there would be many more stalls, but since the event is being held at the middle of COVID-19 crisis this year, the stalls are lined up according to social distance.
Festivals are canceled everywhere this year, so it's exciting just to see the stalls lined up.
First of all, I was hungry, so I ate the standard "Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki" at the food stall. Okonomiyaki at a food stall is really irresistible.
Next, I got my favorite "baby castella". This is also a classic at fairs, so when you see it, you buy it.
The rustic taste is irresistible.
At the skewer stall, a table was also set up next to it. I enjoyed eating and drinking! I didn't get to go to the festival this summer, so it's a lot of fun to eat outside like this.
Originally, a "substitute rice cake pounding (Migawari Mochi-tsuki)" was scheduled to be held at Banshoji from 6:00 p.m., but it was cancelled this time. We are looking forward to the day when it will be held again.
