[Art Appreciation while taking a walk] Aichi Public Art Exploration around Nagoya station

A symbolic presence in front of Nagoya Station

⑩ 89 Design Expo Symbol Monument/Flying

Symbol Monument/Flying

This monument at the JR Nagoya Station Sakura-dori exit side rotary is also a public art.

It was established in 1989, the year of the 100th anniversary of the Nagoya municipal system, along with the holding of the World Design Expo. The theme is "transmission from the past to the future". The rope design of Jomon pottery is said to symbolize citizens working together to build a new city, and Nagoya, which will transmit information to the world in the 21st century.

Unfortunately, it is scheduled to be relocated in recent years. It is a little sad to see the symbolic presence in front of Nagoya Station disappear. Only public art can change like this in accordance with changes in the city.

A beautiful world in the basement of Nagoya Station

Next, take the underpass to the Lucent Tower!

We were a little lost, wondering if there was an underground passage like that at Nagoya Station, but we were able to reach it by heading toward KITTE from the basement of Nagoya Station and aiming for Exit 10. Look for the yellow sign in the photo.

Lucent Avenue, the 290-meter underground passageway connecting Nagoya Station and Lucent Tower, is a fun art space! Kittens serve as guides, guiding visitors through nine different worlds (City, Meadow, Forest, Giant, Sky 1, Sky 2, Sea, Rain, and Oasis).

Together with kittens, we are off! (We'll pick up from 9 different worlds to introduce you.)

First of all, there is a meadow with animals such as rabbits and chickens.

Next is a forest with lions and deer. The green lighting is like sunlight filtering through the trees, and it is beautiful.

You will feel as if you are in the sea. There is a large stingray painted on the ceiling.

Frogs are painted here and there on the floor, and the lighting creates ripples in the water. Where will the ripples appear next? We couldn't help but wonder where the ripples would appear next.

Finally, an oasis in the desert.

While enjoying each different world, we passed through the 290m underground passage in no time. It's underground, so we're happy that it's comfortable on rainy days and hot days. Even small children can enjoy it together!

⑫ Shigenobu Yoshida “Infinite Light”

Among the public art tours this time, we were most fascinated by Mr. Shigenobu Yoshida's work "Infinite Light". It's in the middle of the underground passage we introduced earlier.

Red, blue, and yellow stained glass bathed in sunlight appear like colored wallpaper and carpets in the underground plaza.

It was a sunny day, and the light was shining beautifully. It's interesting how the view changes depending on the time and weather!

Life Designs is a lifestyle media that disseminates information on the theme of "making life in the Tokai area (Aichi, Gifu, Mie) more enjoyable".

We would like it to be a media that is close to the readers' daily lives, such as outings and lunch references. It is run by editorial staff who devote themselves to food, outings, and hobbies every day. While living in the Tokai area, we will deliver through the media the things and places we encountered and things that touched our heartstrings.
