[Naka-ku, Nagoya] Q.O.L. COFFEE, a Roaster Cafe where the Owner Shima Honed his Skills in Melbourne

Nagoya city Naka-ku
Posting date: 2019.01.22

Interior with various ingenuity

−The interior of the store is filled with various thoughts of Mr. Shima.

Mr. Shima: "When I started this store, my goal was to create a coffee + roaster cafe centered on specialty coffee. The green coffee beans are placed in the back of the store, and the roasting machine is placed at the entrance. The roasted beans are dripped and served to customers at the counter. Many people don't realize it, but we have a way for them to see the process of how a cup of coffee is made.

Mr. Shima: "The second floor is a café + gallery where customers can relax and spend time. We actually have gallery exhibitions, plays, coffee and Japanese confectionary pairings, and live music performances here. Although it is a new form of cafe, we actually want to make it a coffee + culture destination while respecting the old cafe culture."

A cup of coffee while enjoying the borrowed scenery outside is a blissful moment.

It opens at 7:30 in the morning, so if you enjoy morning breakfast before going to work, you should be able to feel a richer day.

You can enjoy the works of various artists during each exhibition period.

A coffee bean tree that he received when he was working at a long-established coffee shop in Nagoya. It seems that it has grown to this size in about 15 years.

Tasting their coffee

−At Q.O.L COFFEE, the method of serving coffee is also slightly different.

Mr. Shima: “At our cafe, we serve coffee in original cups and servers. By providing coffee in this way, we would be happy if you enjoy drinking coffee while feeling something extraordinary.”

This time we received Kenya. When it is served, it comes with a piece of paper on which information about the beans is written. By providing written information about the beans, even if you forget what you drank when you start talking, you can still know what kind of coffee it was.

Mr. Shima personally visits the kiln in Seto to create the original cups, paying close attention to the glaze application process and the fine crack patterns that are produced. You can actually purchase them at the store. There are color variations, and the cups are a nice size.

Aiming to be a coffee shop rooted in the city

In 2018, it was selected as one of the top 8 specialty coffee festivals called COFFEE COLLECTION held in Tokyo. The store opening standard is to send coffee beans, and the top 8 selected only by taste can open a store. "QOL COFFEE" is gaining popularity nationwide. I'm really looking forward to what kind of place it will become through coffee in the future. Morning breakfast and food menus are also substantial, so next time I would like to enjoy everything from food to coffee.

Shima-san's personality is also the best, so please come and visit!
