[Young Master's Recommendation!] How to Enjoy Shirakawa-go in Summer

Hello! My name is Akira Miwa, and I work as a young master at the inn Shiroyamakan, which was founded in the World Heritage Site Shirakawa-go at the end of the Meiji period. "Speaking of Shirakawa-go, it is winter snow scenery!" I think many people have such an image. Actually, the busiest season is the winter season in January and February. However, there are many recommended points in Shirakawa-go in summer!

So, this time I will introduce how to enjoy Shirakawa-go in summer.

The beauty of green is amazing!

Shirakawa-go in summer

First of all, it must be the beauty of green! This is the season when you can feel the vivid greens of the trees and rice plants being very dazzling.

The view from the observatory is especially spectacular!

Blue sky, white clouds and dazzling greenery, the perfect combination!

A lot of cool sweets!

かき氷Shaved ice with plenty of syrup in fluffy ice is irresistible in hot summer! The ice is made with water from Shirakawa-go, so it's even more delicious♪ ((By the way, in the photo on the far left is my wife and my one-year-old second son.)

The shops in Gassho Village sell a lot of cool sweets such as gelato, soft serve ice cream, and shaved ice.

Enjoy a wide variety of soft serve ice cream, from standard to local flavors.

If you get a little tired from walking in the hot sun, take a break with a chilly sweets! We also recommend Ramune and cider chilled with mountain water.

Look for beetles and stag beetles!

Night is the time when beetles and stag beetles begin to move. Even if you do not go into the mountains, you can sometimes find them in brightly lit places such as vending machines and outdoor lamps, so please look for them when you stay in Shirakawa-go.

For my eldest son, who loves stag beetles and rhinoceros beetles, this place is paradise! Look at his smile!

Feel nostalgic!

At dusk in summer, the Higurashi cicada cries in the village begin to sing "Kakanakakanaka".

Walking through the village, the smell of mosquito coils comes out of nowhere, giving one a nostalgic feeling of being very nostalgic, yet at the same time a bit lonely.

Perhaps this is because it brings back memories of childhood that will never come back.

Shaved ice, catching insects, a summer in Shirakawa-go reminds me of my childhood. It's like when you come to your grandma's house in the countryside.

Shirakawa-go in the summer, where you can enjoy such nostalgia, is definitely recommended!
