[Nagoya] Recommended Spots in Tsurumai Area

Tsurumai area is known for its easy access, with the JR Chuo Line and Tsurumai Subway Line running through it. You may have a strong image of Tsurumai Park, which is crowded during the cherry blossom viewing season, but in recent years, it is a little-known area where the number of popular shops is increasing.

This time, we will introduce recommended spots in the Tsurumai area. Please use it as a reference for your weekend outings!

Tsuruma Park

First, I would like to introduce about the Tsurumai area.

Tsurumai Park is located right next to Tsurumai Station. Opened in 1909, it is the oldest park in Nagoya. The original zoo was moved to Higashiyama in 1937. It is recommended to enjoy snacks and coffee while admiring the seasonal flowers.

In the Tsurumai area between Tsuruma Park, Kamimaezu and Higashibetsuin, cafes, bakeries, curry shops, lifestyle shops, and other shops with special attention to detail are opening one after another.

I breathe a sigh of relief,
A shop where you can enjoy home-roasted coffee
"Cafe Kurokawa"

Cafe Kurokawa

Cafe Kurokawa

Kissa Kurokawa is located about a 10-minute walk from JR/Subway Tsurumai Station.

Reading time spent alone. Afternoon tea time. Refreshment after work. This is the store you want to visit when you want to enjoy a cup of coffee in a relaxed atmosphere. The carefully brewed, home-roasted coffee has a gentle flavor that makes you sigh with contentment.

One of the attractions of Kissa Kurokawa is the historic building that was designed in the 1960s. You can feel the vestiges of that time everywhere, such as steel beams and concrete block walls.

Hand drip coffee ¥450~ (Pamana ¥500 in the photo)

Depending on the season, they handle about 8 types of beans. The basic is not a blend, but a single. The roast is relatively deep, and there are few coffees that have a sour taste.

In addition, Kissa Kurokawa purchases a lot of “natural / pulped natural refined” beans. Compared to the method of removing the pulp, rinsing it with water and drying it (washed), it is characterized by the sweetness and flavor of the pulp.

Creme brulee

Creme Brulee ¥250

When you're drinking coffee, you will crave something sweet. At Cafe Kurokawa, you can enjoy three types of coffee: "Financier," "Creme Brulee," and "Terrine Chocolat." All of them are handmade by Mr. Kurokawa and have a gentle taste.

From the end of June to the end of September, you can also enjoy shaved ice made with homemade syrup.

Exquisite curry with plenty of spices
"Curry Miyoshi"

Curry Miyoshi

About 5 minutes on foot from Tsurumai Station. "Curry Miyoshi" opened at the end of December 2018. This is a popular spice curry restaurant with long lines forming in front of the restaurant every day around noon.

Curry Miyoshi

The interior of the shop, which has a brick-like feel and the warmth of wood, was entirely designed by the owner, Mr. Miyoshi. There are plenty of counter seats and table seats, so everyone from singles to families can come in without hesitation. Strollers are also OK.

2 types of Aigake curry 1,200 yen (+boiled egg pickled in spices 150 yen)

The most popular is the “Two types of Aigake (1,200 yen)” curry. Topped with "boiled egg spice pickles" soaked in original spice liquid. Cheese can also be topped for 200 yen!

coconut milk chicken curry

This is the creamy "Coconut Milk Chicken Curry" (900 yen for single item), which uses plenty of coconut milk. It contains plenty of spices, but it is mild and very delicious with little spiciness.

chicken keema bean curry

The other is "Chicken Keema Bean Curry" (900 yen for single item), which contains plenty of beans with cloves and cardamom. The burdock is in it, and the texture and mouthwatering aroma is irresistible. Both are the best.

chasing spice

For those who like spicy food, we also recommend chasing spicy spice. Curry that uses plenty of spices and curry that has an irresistible crunchy texture is a dish that you will want to visit again and again.

One of the characteristics of "Aru Hi" dried flowers is the beautiful colors that remain in the plants. All flowers are purchased fresh and dried naturally over a period of one to two months without the use of any machines or chemicals.

The antique fixtures and interiors are all items collected over a long period of time from the United States.

In recent years, the number of shops that sell dried flowers has increased, but there are still not many shops that specialize in dried flowers. I would like you to actually experience the one and only world view of "one day" and the charm of dried flowers.
