Wild tuberous plant

From here, I was shown rare tuberous plants and plants that were not for sale.

Tuberous plants, also called codex, are characterized by thick, swollen roots and stems. The rugged and wild appearance is impressive.

"Kikko Ryu" whose tuberous root looks like a turtle's shell.

When it grows up, it looks like this!

Green with beautiful spots and holes

The variegated "Monstera'' has yellow and white patterns "fu'' in the leaves like this. The trend has started overseas, and it is gaining popularity in Japan as well.

"Monstera Obliquea" with unique holes in the leaves.

"Madokazura" with beautiful variegation.

This is a normal Madokazura. The leaves are different in color and shape.

A variegated "coffee tree". There were even spots on the fruit!

"Kuwazuimo" (alocasia), which can only be found in Japan, is said to be more popular than Monstera.

Rising in popularity! Pay attention to the enchanted dicchia

In the store, they are particularly focusing on the dicchia corner. Dicchia, a type of succulent plant from South America, is characterized by a star-shaped or lizard-like form and sharp thorns.

Mr. Tsuboi: "We probably have the best selection in Japan. They are not well known because they are rarely distributed in Japan, but they are very popular among enthusiasts. We have a large selection of hybrids as well as named species."

Dicchia is also attractive because there are many variations. If you look closely, the thickness of the leaves and the shape of the thorns are slightly different. There were also thin thorns and reverse thorns. The color of the leaves is also smoky and bright green. Pink thorns are said to be popular.

A plant with which we are still not very familiar. It is often thought to be difficult to grow, but this is not true.

<Points for raising>

Watering
Water when the soil is dry, but this is a hardy plant that is very tolerant of drought and can survive even if it withers in a dry state. It is important not to overwater.

Location
It likes sunlight, so a well-ventilated place with sunlight is recommended. It is vulnerable to the cold, and the leaves may get damaged if left outside at temperatures below 10 degrees. Indoors is best in winter.

Dicchia is a plant that is surprisingly easy to grow and difficult to kill. Prices range from 2,000 yen, so even beginners can easily try it.

Take a break at the attached pizzeria "BoiBoi Pizza"

The store also has a pizza specialty store "BoiBoi Pizza". You can have authentic pizza (from 1,200 yen) baked in a special oven, as well as drinks and soups made with vegetables and fruits.

Tsuboi Kenjuen is closed for lunch from 12:00 to 13:00, but this shop is open, so you can take a break while waiting for the shop to open in the afternoon.

Daily smoothie lunch 600 yen (tax included) *Limited quantity

I had a great value menu with caramel pizza and a daily smoothie set. You can enjoy hot and freshly baked. The sweetness of caramel and cheese spreads softly, and the dough is chewy and satisfying ◎

On this day, it was a goji berry smoothie. The body-friendly smoothie made with wolfberry, which is said to be a superfood with high nutritional value, goes great with pizza!

There are many other items on the menu, such as wrap sandwiches and skillet rice.

In addition to the plants introduced here, you will find many other unique plants in the store. The staff is very knowledgeable about plants and will be happy to give you detailed instructions, so even if you are a plant beginner, you should be fine. Why not visit to find your favorite?
