Japan's largest commercial resort facility "VISON" opened in April 2021 in Taki-cho, Mie Prefecture.
VISON is located on a vast site 24 times the size of Tokyo Dome. It is an unprecedented large-scale commercial complex with a total of 68 stores, including a hotel where visitors can experience the four seasons, one of Japan's largest fresh produce markets, a medicinal herb bath named after the town of Taki, famous for its medicinal herbs, restaurants that make the most of local ingredients, and organic farms.
On June 5th (Saturday), the second area “Honzo area” and “Mokuiku Area” opened. This time I would like to report on the "Mokuiku Area".

We came to VISON!
When coming from the direction of Ise, the smart IC is scheduled to directly connect to the site. This is the first smart IC directly connected to a private facility in Japan.
<Notice from VISON>
"In line with Mie Prefecture's priority measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19, we will continue to operate mainly for people in the surrounding areas until June 20 (Sun)."
Tree and Forest Experience Facility "kiond"
“kiond” is a facility for experiencing trees and forests, which opened in the wood education area (Mokuiku area).
The concept is "a place of beginnings that connects people and trees." Various hands-on programs are available, such as workshops for making furniture and art works from wood, and forest activities such as making fires.
There is also a wooden playground and a library cafe with about 1,500 books related to nature. It is an experience-based facility that both adults and children can enjoy.
I will report inside the facility.
"Library Cafe" where you can enjoy coffee and reading
Immediately after entering the entrance is the library cafe where you can enjoy coffee and reading.
The bookshelves are lined with specialized books and picture books about nature, such as trees, forests, and the outdoors. The number is about 1,500 books! The book selection is handled by SPBS (SHIBUYA PUBLISHING & BOOKSELLERS).
The coffee is a kiond original made with beans from Sarutahiko Coffee! A blend that can only be tasted here, with the image of trees and mountains.
Wooden Playground "Kino Park"
Kino Park is a wooden playground filled with the scent of wood. Domestic cedar and Owase cypress are used abundantly in the playground equipment.
The first point is the powerful jungle gym "Mockingham" that is integrated with the building. It is a space where children can develop their sensibility and creativity and play freely.

Mockingham has an illustration by Koichi Uranaka, a picture book author! It gives you a warm feeling.
Various tree workshops are held! "Workroom" & "Wooden Workshop"
In the back of Kino Park, there is a work room and a wooden workshop.
Various wood workshops are held here, from easy-to-participate programs to full-scale programs taught by professionals.
For example, here is a wooden spoon making experience. A program to make a spoon from a tree that has just been cut.
Generally, dried wood is used, but in this program, freshly cut wood is used. The sharpness of the cut is said to be very pleasant.
How the trees growing in the mountains change into spoons. It looks like it's good for children's tree education!
This is a place to make an animal wood carving brooch. This is a workshop where you can make hand-sized animal wood carvings using chisels and chisels.
In addition, there are various programs such as "Purin and Hitotema Kit Spoon", "Museum of the Forest", "My Chopsticks", and "Wood Speakers for Smartphones".
The appeal of kiond is that it offers a wide range of experiences that can be enjoyed not only by children but also by adults. There are also programs that you can participate in by making a reservation on the day of the event, so feel free to drop by.
Outdoor experience "Forest Activities"
The fun at KIOND is not limited to the inside of the facility. A variety of outdoor "forest activities" programs are also available.
In addition to forest walks, visitors can experience first-time bonfire building, plank BBQ, and other experiences that awaken the five senses, which they may not encounter in their daily lives.
For example, here is "Owl Sculpture by a Chainsaw".
You can enjoy the art experience of creating an owl wood carving using a chainsaw. At first glance, it looks very difficult, but even women can make it. Of course, you can take your work home with you!
