Living in Thailand for 6 years,
I met Gaeng Hanley Curry there.
Mr.Muramatsu, the owner
The owner, Mr. Muramatsu, used to work as a designer. He was transferred to Bangkok, Thailand, and lived there for about six years.
Mr. Muramatsu: “I had never been abroad until I was transferred, and I had never even eaten Thai food until I went to Thailand. That's where I came across Gaeng Hanle Curry, which is also the base of Yang Gao Curry.
Gaeng Hanle curry is a local dish of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand, and it is an exquisite curry with moderate spiciness and sweetness harmony. I loved Gaeng Hanley Curry so much that I ate it three times a week. Eventually, I learned how to make curry paste from an old lady from Chiang Mai, and ended up making my own curry paste. ”
Ms. Muramatsu: "Actually, I was planning to start this restaurant in Thailand. Since there was a kitchen in the meeting space on the first floor of the design office, I thought I would open a curry restaurant only on weekends while working on the design. However, I had to return to Japan due to family reasons, and since I originally wanted to do it in Thailand, the name ``Yangao'' and the logo are also in Thai. I opened the shop with the thought of delivering the Thai local that I touched in Thailand to Japan. ”
Inside the store, the letters "หยั่งเก่า (Yanggao)" are everywhere. What does it mean?
Mr. Muramatsu: “Yanggao” is an old dialect of Chiang Mai that means “as usual”. I like old Thai music, and there was a word "Yanggao" in the song. It's a word that isn't actually used much, but even young people can understand it somehow. When I consulted with my friends, their reaction was "It's fresh," so I decided on Yanggao.
We want to create an everyday space where the young and the old, the local and the distant, blend together naturally."
