ACTUS celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
They began importing and selling European furniture, mainly from Scandinavia, as early as 1969, and were one of the pioneers of lifestyle interior stores. The store offers not only furniture and interior design, but also total solutions for "clothing, food, and housing" necessary for one's lifestyle.
For this interview, we visited the Actus Nagoya to talk about the key points in furniture selection and recommended items.
What is the lifestyle shop “ACTUS”?
The history of Actus dates back to 1969 when Yukawa Art Products Co., Ltd. was established. The first store of Actus, "European Furniture Aoyama Sarun", opened in Aoyama, Tokyo, and started importing and selling European furniture.
The seven founding members started the company with the idea that "a rich life is not about repeated consumption, but about spending as much time as possible with products whose makers' faces are visible.
Today, the company operates 32 directly managed stores in Shinjuku, Aoyama, Sendai, Yokohama, Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Fukuoka, and other major cities nationwide, as well as dealer stores, original apparel brand businesses, and restaurant businesses.
There are two directly managed stores in the Tokai area: “Actus Nagoya” and “Actus Nagoya mozo Wonder City”.
What is the key to choosing furniture?
We asked Mr. Suzuki, the store manager, about the key points when choosing furniture.
– What is the best time to choose furniture when building a house?
Mr. Suzuki: “I recommend that you visit us at the stage when you start thinking about building a house. It is best to visit us when you can make changes.
At Actus, our home concierge uses interior simulation software to provide interior planning services to meet our customer's needs."
– What do customers need for planning services?
Mr. Suzuki: "Drawing with dimensions and a photo of an image close to your liking. If you don't have a drawing, it is okay if you know the layout of your home and the dimensions of the room. Even if you don't have a clear image of what you want, please feel free to consult with us."
