[Meito-ku, Nagoya] Try the Cakes that are Organic and Pesticide-free at "Baked confectionery moegiiro"

"Baked confectionery moegiiro" is located in "NISHIYAMA NAGAYA", a complex facility that opened last fall in the Nishiyama shopping district in the Hoshigaoka area of Nagoya.

This is a baked confectionery shop where you can taste seasonal sweets that are particular about organic ingredients.

NISHIYAMA NAGAYA in Nishiyama Shopping Street

Mayumi, the wife of Kohei Uemura, an architect who works on NISHIYAMA NAGAYA, runs moegiiro as the owner and patissier.

In addition to moegiiro, NISHIYAMA NAGAYA has a coffee shop and a flower shop on the first floor, and Mr. Uemura's architectural design office is on the second floor.

Moegi color (ligh-green color) represents the green color of young leaves that sprout in early spring. He named the store "moegiiro" because he wanted to grow like fresh greenery full of vitality.

As the name suggests, moegiiro has a lot of greenery and a natural and soft atmosphere. Surrounded by the slightly sweet scent of baked sweets, it naturally soothes the heart.

Owner Mayumi-san

We asked her how she got started with moegiiro.

Mayumi-san: “When I got married, my husband (architect Kohei Uemura) and I were talking about how it would be nice if we could open a sweets shop on the first floor and a design office on the second floor. Ever since I was a student, I’ve wanted to open a shop of my own. I wanted to open a shop that sells healthy and delicious sweets made with organic ingredients.”

Mayumi-san seems to have attended a home economics school when she was a student. At that time,  she thought that if she had to choose between cooking and confectionery, she would like to make confectionery, which she also loves to eat, and that was the initial impetus for starting the restaurant.

Mr. Uemura, the husband of an architect, established NISHIYAMA NAGAYA, where the couple's dream of starting a baked confectionery shop and an architectural design office together has come true.

Delicious baked sweets

Moegiiro is particular about ingredients.

Baked sweets lined up in the store use organic and pesticide-free ingredients as much as possible. They are particular about domestically produced eggs and flour.

The eggs are free-range eggs from Hikari no Sato Farm in Chita, and the flour is made from pesticide-free Shirogane Wheat grown in Kumamoto Prefecture. They have a wide range of sweets that are good for the body and are made with natural ingredients.

It looks so delicious!

There are about 20 kinds of sweets that are carefully baked one by one. The showcase is decorated with tarts, cakes, and macaroons made with seasonal ingredients and fruits, from the standard menu items such as pecan nut tarts, canelees, and scones to the tarts, cakes, and macaroons that are available at the time of the season.

The seasonal menu changes every two weeks. It's also attractive that you can enjoy seasonal flavors that change every time you visit.

From "moegiiro" standard to seasonal menu
Introducing 3 carefully selected items!

All of moegiiro's sweets look cute and you can see the personality of the patissier Mayumi. Simple sweets that express the beauty of the contents rather than just dressing up. Because each one is carefully handmade, you will want to savor it carefully when you eat it.

We would like to introduce three carefully selected sweets from the moegiiro storefront.

“Pecan nut tart” ¥450 (tax included)

Moegiiro classic menu, tart using organic pecan nuts.

The moist filling on top of the crispy and fragrant tart and the texture of a lot of pecan nuts create an exquisite harmony. A relaxing dish with a modest sweetness that goes well with coffee.

"Western pear and brown rice tea tart" ¥530 (tax included)

A tart made by baking seasonal pears and organic brown rice tea with almond cream.

The umami of the pear and the slight sweetness of the almond cream, accentuated by the flavor of the genmaicha, bring happiness to your mouth. A Japanese-style tart that makes you want to eat Japanese tea rather than coffee or black tea.

At moegiiro, there are many sweets made with Japanese tea such as new tea and hojicha. You can also enjoy it according to the season.

"Cannelles" ¥220

Cannelles are highly reputed on SNS such as Instagram for their deliciousness! They are crispy on the outside and moist and chewy on the inside. With its moderate sweetness and savory flavor, once you try it, you will surely be captivated!
