Where to Get an Antique/Vintage Furniture around Nagoya

* Information is current at the time of the interview.
Please check the latest information of each facility and store when using.

In this issue, we introduce a selection of vintage and antique furniture stores in the Nagoya area.

When you hear the word "vintage," you may think "difficult" or "for experts," but that is not the case. Furniture that has been loved for many years is as beautiful as new furniture in terms of both function and design. Vintage furniture has a variety of tastes depending on the country, such as Scandinavian, American, and Japanese. Please try to find your favorite taste.

"Favor"

The first one we would like to introduce is a Scandinavian vintage furniture store "FAVOR" located in Meito Ward, Nagoya City. The store offers a wide variety of Scandinavian furniture and sundries, mainly from Denmark, which the owner himself purchases locally. Customers come from all over Japan to visit the store, making it a must-visit for vintage furniture lovers.

The first floor is a showroom and a workshop that repairs furniture. The second floor is a furniture warehouse.

The showroom is arranged so that you can imagine the layout without intentionally increasing the number of furniture.

The furniture of Favor is all special items that the owner couple directly purchases from Denmark, Finland, Sweden, etc. 2-3 times a year. All the furniture in the warehouse on the second floor is listed in the file, and if you wish, you can see the real thing. If you can't find the size or material you want in the shop, please feel free to consult with them.

Mid-century vintage furniture store
"Palm Springs"

Palm Springs

Speaking of mid-century furniture in Nagoya, it is "Palm Springs".

They sell mid-century vintage furniture in Osu, Naka-ku, Nagoya. Mid-century means "in the middle of the century." In the interior world, it mainly refers to furniture and buildings designed in the 1940s to 1960s. At Palm Springs, they directly purchase only items that they are satisfied with, one by one, from the United States and Europe.

The interior of the store is lined with furniture from the mid-century era purchased from America and Europe.

In Palm Springs, they see, touch, and sit down with their own eyes. They buy directly from locals. They then check, clean, and repair all items in our own repair workshop. They repaint table tops and most of these wooden items in their repair workshop on the second floor of the store. The paint is thin enough to preserve the texture and grain of the wood, so you can enjoy the texture of the furniture as it is.

This is an original three-seat sofa, reproduced with the design of a vintage sofa, taking into account size and safety. Production is commissioned to a Japanese sofa manufacturer. The color can be selected from 10 colors. The price is reasonable and it blends easily with any design of furniture and rooms, so there are many orders from people other than vintage lovers.

There is a picture of a big monster outside. It was created by yoshi47, an artist who is active both in Japan and overseas.

In Nagoya, the antique shop "STORE IN FACTORY", which boasts tremendous support, and the affiliated select shop "THE APARTMENT STORE" have moved to Sakae, Nagoya. Stores that had been disjointed until now were united and opened as one building in April 2019.

Inside the building, rooms with various aspects such as antiques, apparel, food, workshops, galleries, studios, offices, etc. are gathered together like a single apartment.

Antique Market Fukiage

The last place we would like to introduce is Japan's largest antique mall, Antique Market Fukiage. The entire building from the 1st to 7th floors is an antique shop.

The first through fifth floors are crammed with a variety of items, including furniture and accessories purchased directly from all over Europe, Japanese props and sundries, and fittings. The 7th floor also houses the rooftop garden café "Le Jardin," where you can enjoy shopping while taking a break after a long day.
