Coffee stand "TIROL"

A 15-minute walk north from Meitetsu Gifu Station. Coffee Stand TIROL is located on the Yanagisase shopping street, which is also well known as the site of the popular Sunday Building Market. Around the store in the central area are Gifu Takashimaya and Yanagisse Cinex movie theater.

The entrance is open because there is no door, and I got the impression that it is easy to enter the store even for first-time visitors.

The interior of the shop, which is based on the same white color as the exterior walls, has a clean and bright atmosphere.

Upon entering the store, I found records by Mariya Takeuchi and Tatsuro Yamashita! Both have stylish jackets. Both of them have stylish jackets that blend in well with the store's interior and look very nice.

There is a small eat-in space inside the store. There are also benches outside the store, perfect for taking a break during a walk or while shopping.

There were murals painted all over the store. I smiled every time when I see one of these adorable illustrations. They are painted in various places, so be sure to look for them while you wait for your drink.

Coffee stand "CAROL"

Next, we will introduce the sister store "CAROL".

I found it as soon as I left the ticket gate in front of Meitetsu Gifu Station Loft! With a semi-elliptical building and a design that makes you look like you're wearing a pointed hat, it's a very cute roadside store.

Carol originally opened in the Mitonocho shopping district. Last September 2021, it moved to a new location in front of the ticket gates of Meitetsu Gifu Station. Since it is located in front of the station, it is very convenient to stop by on the way to work or school, and many customers of all ages visit the shop every day.

On the side of the order counter, there was a space where you could enjoy the purchased drinks and sweets on the spot.

There is a drink menu on the other side, and the blackboard is full of cute illustrations along with the menu table.

When opening TIROL, the owner, Mr. Narita, solicited supporters through crowdfunding. This is to create opportunities for many people to visit, hoping for the revitalization of Yanagase Shopping Street.

Mr. Narita:"Yanagase shopping street is becoming more and more shuttered year by year. However, this shopping street is full of good old history and charm. I wanted more people to come and know about it, and I thought it would be nice to have a place where people could gather and interact with each other."

Mr. Narita: "Therefore, we focused on the culture of 'eating while walking'. 'Food' brings about great interaction. In order to spread the 'eating while walking' culture in the Yanagase shopping district, the first step was to open a coffee shop specializing in takeout that anyone can use.
With casualness as our motto, we aim to create a store that can be used by people of all ages. We would be happy if you could take a stroll along the shopping street with a cup of coffee in your hand and enjoy shopping."

Mr. Narita:"The name of the restaurant came from my parents' 'Italian Restaurant TIROL'. The sister store, CAROL, is named after a word that is close to the word "TIROL" and is positioned as TIROL's little sister."

The secret story behind the birth of the store character

The store's very charming characters are also called "TIROL-kun" and "CAROL-chan". They were designed by the creative unit "oi shop". They are involved in a variety of projects to enliven the Yanagigase shopping district, such as organizing the Sunday Building Market and managing and renovating idle real estate in the shopping district as a member of "Yanagigase wo Tanoshii Machi ni Suru Kabushiki Kaisha" (Make Yanagigase a Fun City Company)."

When he came to visit TIROL, Mr. Narita asked him to draw an image character. To his surprise, Tyrol-kun was born on the spot. It is truly amazing that the character image came to mind so quickly. Later, when the sister store opened, they had CAROL-chan drawn with a canelé motif.
