What is “Yoro-han”?
“Yoro-han” is a new local gourmet dish in Yoro-cho, where the owner-chef of sio, a restaurant that has been awarded one star for four consecutive years in the Michelin Guide Tokyo 2020, participated as a development advisor.
The definition of Yoro-han is "a bowl of rice topped with Yoro-cho's famous grilled meat, fried egg, and a gourd-shaped piece of rice." The chef comes up with a base recipe, and local restaurants serve it with their own twists based on the recipe.
This time, we will introduce a restaurant where you can enjoy a new local gourmet dish, "Yoro-han".
"Jiyuken", a famous restaurant visited by professional baseball players
Jiyuken, located in Yoro-cho, Gifu Prefecture, is a Western restaurant that is loved by everyone from locals to professional baseball players. It is located about 10 minutes from Yoro Falls and Yoro Tenmei Hanten Chi.
Because Mizuno's factory, which manufactures baseball bats, is nearby, the store is decorated with autographs from baseball players who have visited Jiyuken.
“Teppan Yoro-han meal” invented by such a long-established Western restaurant.
The egg and white rice laid out on a hot iron plate are topped with diced pork and a fried egg flavored with ginger and soy sauce, making it a hearty meal. Additionally, an edible red gourd pickled in shibazuke is served on the side.
You can change the taste by adding black pepper or gochujang.
If you like donburi, there is also "Yorodon".
Other than that, we also recommend beef tendon and oyster steak. The beef tendon slowly simmered in red miso uses only rare parts and is so tender. The seasonal oyster steak was developed by the owner chef for his wife who doesn't like oysters. It is now a popular winter menu.
Both can be eaten individually or as a bowl or set meal.
Whatever you eat on Jiyuken's menu is exquisite! Please come and visit us.

"Izakaya Shunchan" is a very popular izakaya with locals.
"Izakaya Shunchan'' is an izakaya located in the northernmost part of Yoro-cho. They have a wide selection of reasonably priced menu items. The carefully selected menu created by the owner from Hokkaido is also very popular.
This is a locally-based restaurant where you can feel free to stop by for lunch or dinner, with no seat fees or appetizer fees.
There are two types of Yoro-han offered by Izakaya Shunchan. Among them, the "Yoro-han Meat Festival Version" is very popular and is supported by many age groups.
The beef used is Hida beef, and the rich, butter-like fat that surrounds the whole dish goes perfectly with the rice. On top of that, I put chopped ginger and baby wood ear mushrooms on top. It's stir-fried with a sweet and spicy sauce similar to that of grilled meat, so it goes well with rice.
Breaking up the fried egg yolk on top and eating it together will bring you a moment of bliss.
Yoro-han: 1,045 yen (tax included)
Lunch only: 1,100 yen (tax included)Yoro-han Meat festival ver.: 1,045 yen (tax included)

Hokkaido gourmet food prepared by the owner, who is from Hokkaido, is also a popular menu item. Among them, "Salt Zangi'' (called "Karaage'' on the menu) has a simple taste, but once you try it, you will be addicted to it.
Perfect for an evening drink.
Obihiro's specialty "butadon (pork rice bowl)" is very popular day and night.
The juicy, thick meat is coated with a sweet and spicy sauce, and the rice goes down quickly. The more you chew, the more flavor the pork and sauce go together, making this a masterpiece.
Izakaya Shun-chan is a locally-owned izakaya where you can enjoy reasonably priced meals from lunch to dinner. Please enjoy the delicious dishes prepared by the owner.

A place for locals to relax
"Yoro Onsen Yusen no Sato"
"`Yoro Onsen Yusen no Sato" spreads out against the backdrop of the beautiful mountains of Yoro.
On the premises are the Yoro Onsen Yusen no Sato, a day spa with free-flowing hot spring water, a vast lawn ground golf course, and Hotel Nadeshiko, which has a sweat lodge, a rarity in Japan. This hot spring facility offers various activities such as trekking, road biking, trail running, and bass fishing.
You can also enjoy "Yoro-han" at the facility's restaurant "Japanese Dining MINORI." The beef served on a piping hot iron plate will whet your appetite.
If you add the spicy sauce that comes with it, it will be even more delicious and you can enjoy a different taste. It is also recommended as a post-sauna meal.
"Japanese Dining MINORI" also offers a variety of other dishes made with natural ingredients.
The most popular item is the extra-large Tonjiru that has been loved since it opened. It's a nutritious dish that has a lot of ingredients and is filling, allowing you to taste a variety of ingredients at once.
Since the size is large, we recommend sharing it with friends or family.
The classic "deep-fried chicken set meal" is a specialty dish that boasts unwavering popularity. The batter is crispy and the inside is juicy. The strong soy sauce flavor with ginger and garlic will whet your appetite.

"Shimizu", a long-established restaurant in Yoro Park
Shimizu is a restaurant and souvenir shop located in Yoro Park. It is located along the road to Yoro Falls, and its specialties include "Yoro Yaki Dango (grilled dumplings)", "Yoro Multigrain Pork Udon", "Nagashi Somen (flowing some noodles)", and "Salt-grilled Live Fish Ayu''. You can enjoy an original menu that focuses on locally sourced ingredients.
We also carry specialty products such as gourds and Yoro sake as souvenirs.
"Shimizu"'s Yoro-han is a skillet type that is inspired by camping food. Since it is served on an iron plate, you can enjoy it hot until the end.
The pork is a brand of pork called "Yoro Sanroku Pork," seasoned with a twice-cooked-pork-based miso sauce. It is served with homemade pickles cut into gourd shapes.
The charcoal-grilled ``Yoro-yaki dango'' is a surefire way to stop visitors to Yoro Falls.
There are three types of sauce: walnut miso, soy sauce, and strained bean paste. They also have mugwort dumplings. Eating dango in nature is a good experience.
