In Nagoya, curry specialty restaurants have been opening one after another for the past several years. I have always been a big curry lover, and my love for curry knows no bounds, as I once gained a lot of weight while eating curry every day.
In this article, I will introduce 6 shops that Life Designs has interviewed in the past, including some that I personally love.
① You can taste “Gaeng Hanley Curry” from northern Thailand
"Yanggao"
The first place I would like to introduce is the Thai curry restaurant “Yanggao” in Joshin, Nishi-ku, Nagoya. It is attracting attention as a restaurant where you can taste the curry "Gaeng Hanley Curry" from the Chiang Mai region in northern Thailand. Gaeng Hanley Curry is characterized by the combination of pork that has been simmered until it becomes tender and the freshness of ginger.
The open interior is designed in the image of a Thai restaurant. There are counter seats by the window and table seats by the wall, so you can spend a relaxing time alone or with your family.
The name of the restaurant, "Yanggao" is an old dialect of the Chiang Mai region that means "as usual". The owner's desire to create an everyday space where young and old, locals and distant people can naturally blend in is included.
"Massaman curry" Thai curry originated in southern Thailand. You can feel deep richness and sweetness in the faint spiciness. They use jasmine rice from Thailand.
"Shrimp and bamboo shoot kuah curry" Thai curry originating in northern Thailand. The rich flavor of coconut milk and shrimp, combined with the freshness of lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves, creates an exquisite combination of spiciness and sourness.
The menu also includes the standard "Yanggao Curry (M size 850 yen)" and two kinds of curry: "Massaman Curry" and "Shrimp and Bamboo Shoot Curry with Qua Curry," so be sure to try them.
"Gaeng Hanley curry" is still rare in Japan, but the way of eating is arranged in a Japanese style, so even those who are not familiar with Thai curry should definitely try Yanggao's curry once.

② Curry with more than 10 kinds of spices
"Curry Miyoshi"
"Curry Miyoshi" just opened at the end of last December in Tsurumai, Nagoya. It's just opened, but it's a popular restaurant with a long line of people waiting in front of it every day around noon.
The curry made by the owner, Mr. Miyoshi, contains more than 10 kinds of spices.
The counter is lined with an array of spices.
The most popular item is the “Two Kinds of Aigake Curry” (1,200 yen). You can enjoy two types at the same time: the creamy "Coconut Milk Chicken Curry (900 yen for single item)" that uses plenty of coconut milk, and the "Chicken Keema Bean Curry (900 yen for single item)" that contains plenty of beans with cloves and cardamom.
The colorful pickles are also handmade by Mr. Miyoshi. He used to grow vegetables as a professional, so he knows how to make the most of the ingredients! It's delicious even if you mix it with curry and eat it.
Curry Miyoshi has captivated visitors one after another since it opened. The spiciness that leaves a lasting impression is a gem that you will want to eat again and again.

③ An exquisite soup curry specialty restaurant that you will want to eat every day
"SOUP CURRY ISHIBA"
Chicken soup curry (1,200 yen)
"SOUP CURRY ISHIBA" is located about 10 minutes on foot from Kanayama Station.
There are 3 types of menus.
・Vegetable soup curry (1,080 yen)
・Pork soup curry (1,130 yen)
・Chicken soup curry (1,200 yen)
You can order just the soup curry, and you can order as much rice as you like for 1 yen per gram. There are more ingredients than you might imagine, so the soup alone will fill you up quite a bit. The spiciness ranges from LEVEL 1 to LEVEL 7. Additional charges will apply from LEVEL 4 onwards.
One bite of the soup will make you want to scream because it is so delicious (laugh). The soup curry, which combines the flavor of vegetables and chicken, is exquisite. The chicken is produced in Japan, and the vegetables are directly from local farmers. The vegetables are fresh and organic and deep fried, so they are just delicious!
I never had a taste for soup curry until I found this place, but it has opened a new door for me. You should definitely try it!
