Row of cherry trees

Togokusan Fruits Park is located at the foot of Mt. Togoku surrounded by a rich natural environment. Opened in April 1980 as a multi-purpose agricultural park, providing a place to come into contact with nature in the city, a place to enjoy plant observation and walks, and guidance and research on fruit tree cultivation techniques. This year marks the 40th anniversary. It is popular as a unique agricultural park with the theme of fruits.

In spring, about 1,000 cherry trees, including the weeping cherry trees, bloom, making it a very popular cherry blossom viewing spot!

where various fruits grow in each season

Orchard

Grape

Let's go to the orchard first!

Pears, blueberries, apples, and other seasonal fruits grow in the orchards on a vast land of approximately 22,000 square meters. There are few opportunities to know how the fruits that we usually eat are like. It is also popular as a food education for children.

Mr. Ogawa and Mr. Noguchi, who are in charge of the orchard, showed us around.

Once inside...it's like a jungle! There are many fruit trees that we have never seen before.

Mr. Nakajima, in charge of the greenhouse

Mr. Nakajima, who is in charge of the greenhouse, showed us around.

All of a sudden, our question is, is a banana a tree?

banana

It is often referred to as a "banana tree," but bananas are actually "grass." What looks like a tree is a series of overlapping leaf bases. The image is that of an onion skin.

After the flowers bloom, the fruit grows. we had no idea that bananas, which we eat everyday, grow in this way. Incidentally, India produces the most bananas in the world.

Koparahitsu

Koparahitsu

This is "Koparamitsu".

It resembles the jackfruit, the world's largest fruit, but the big difference is that the fruit is smaller and has a stronger aroma. The ripe fruit can be eaten raw around the seed and is juicy like a pear.

gourd

gourd

Next is "gourd tree". There are fruits on the tree trunk. This is a surprise! ! Although it has nothing to do with Japanese gourd, it is used for similar purposes such as containers.

The fruits introduced here are just a few. It is easy to find because there is a plate like this where the fruit is growing. The fruits that can be seen in each season are also different, so please enjoy the difference!
