So this time, we would like to introduce an anniversary trip to Gero Onsen Yamagataya​. Gero Onsen Yamagataya is a 180-year-old ryokan (inn) that has been in business since the Edo period. This ryokan is popular for its open-air bath and cuisine made with local ingredients, and has many repeat visitors every year.

How to get to Gero Onsen?

It takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes from Nagoya to Gero by the "Wide View Hida" limited express train on the JR Takayama-Honsen Line. It is the perfect distance for a weekend overnight stay.

A 13-minute walk from Gero Station on the JR Takayama Main Line brings you to Gero Onsen Yamagataya, where a courtesy bus is available from 13:30 to 18:30 to coincide with the arrival of express trains.

Wooden Yamagataya

Gero Onsen Yamakgataya was founded in the Tenpo era at the end of the Edo period. A long-established ryokan that has been loved by travelers and merchants since the end of the Edo period. Yamagataya's greatest appeal is its desire to "make people who visit Yamagataya feel more relaxed than at home, and return home feeling better," which has remained unchanged since the time of its founding.

River Seseragi (Room 502)

One of the attractions of Gero Onsen Yamagataya is the variety of guest rooms.

Consists of three buildings, "Rosho Wing", "Tousenkaku", and "Taikansou", and has a wide variety of guest rooms, mainly Japanese-style rooms and Japanese-Western style rooms. Among them, the guest rooms with open-air baths in Tosenkaku are especially popular. The retro-modern Japanese-style room is perfect for special anniversaries!

Each of the three types of guest rooms, "Kaze no Izanai", "Kawa no Seseragi", and "Tsuki no Katarai", has an open-air bath. You can enjoy Gero's natural hot springs anytime during your stay. This is a luxury!

You can see the Hida River from the terrace. In the cooler months, it would be nice to enjoy a drink on the terrace.

Relaxing tea time in the cafe space

After changing into a yukata, let's go to the cafe lounge located next to the lobby. Enjoy tea time with a "techa ticket'' that is a bonus for couples. You'll be able to relax and enjoy some tea or coffee.

When you think of hot springs, you think of table tennis. With the couple plan, you can enjoy table tennis for free for one hour! We have some time before dinner, so it's time for a game.

Being able to enjoy table tennis in a yukata is a unique way to enjoy yourself at a hot spring inn. If it gets too hot, it's a good idea to wash away your sweat in the open-air bath in your room.
