"Yakiimo Marujun", a roasted sweet potato specialty shop

"There's a shop that's perfect for a snack,'' so we visited "Yakiimo Maru Jun," a shop that specializes in roasted sweet potatoes.

It is a specialty shop of roasted sweet potatoes, which is rare in Japan, and you can enjoy the most delicious sweet potatoes of the season, including sticky and sweet Anno sweet potatoes from Tanegashima.

Owner Mr. Ishikawa

The owner, Mr. Ishikawa, has always loved the outdoors and used to bake sweet potatoes in a Dutch oven. Hi first encounter with Anno-imo made him fall in love with yakiimo more and more. After eating and comparing sweet potatoes from all over the country, he is so full of “sweet potato love” that he has developed original sweet potato dishes and sweets.

There are many types of sweet potatoes, but they can be broadly divided into two types: sticky and soft flaky. The price of baked sweet potatoes is determined by weight, with sticky sweet potatoes ranging from 180 to 280 yen per 100g, and soft flaky sweet potatoes ranging from 150 to 300 yen per 100g.

If you can't decide, please refer to Marujun's original chart, which is categorized by "sweet", "light", "sticky", and "flaky"!

There is also a cafe space.

In addition to yakiimo, there are also menus where you can enjoy the deliciousness of sweet potatoes such as “Yakiimo Loco Moco Style Curry (980 yen)”, “Yakiimo Cheese (556yen)” and “Yakiimo Quiche (352yen)”. Mr. Ishikawa's favorite is the sweet potato shaved ice (723 yen)!

Now, let's try some yakiimo!

Yakiimo baked in a special pot is exquisite!

It was fun to eat and compare, asking, “Is the Hokuhoku type better?” or “I prefer the sticky type.” I would like you to taste various brands.

And Marujun's commitment is "soft and delicious even when cold". That's why many people buy it as a souvenir!
