Let's have fun learning about sewerage at METAWATER Sewerage Science Museum Nagoya!
METAWATER Sewerage Science Museum Nagoya is located about a 5-minute walk from Meijo Park on the Municipal Subway Meijo Line. There is only one parking lot for disabled people (reservation required), so please use the nearby coin parking.
The museum is divided into five zones: "Life and Sewerage," "Mechanism of Sewage Treatment," "Maintenance and Management of Sewage Pipes," "Preparation for Disasters," and "History and Future of Sewerage in Nagoya."
First, let's go to the Living and Sewerage Zone!
Let's experience the flow of water used! "Living and Sewerage Zone"
In the "Living and Sewerage Zone", you can learn how water actually flows in the skeleton house and where the used water goes. Where does the water we use every day, such as kitchens, baths, and toilets, end up?
Let's borrow "Poop" at the reception and actually flush it down the toilet!
Then, when I flushed the water, poop came flowing.
Go through the sewer to the maintenance hole .
When you open the maintenance hole cover, you will find poop! Children were learning while having fun.
In the Guidance Theater, you can enjoy two videos: "Explore! Where is the Sea Connected?" and "Water Story."
"Sewage Treatment Mechanism Zone" where you can enjoy learning about the mechanism of the water treatment center
Next, let's go to the "Mechanism Zone of Sewage Treatment"!
Learn how our water treatment centers treat the water we use, including sewerage facility maps, sewage treatment challenges, and how sludge treatment works.
We immediately took on the Sewage Treatment Challenge "Sedimentation Pond - Final Sedimentation Pond" to see how the Water Treatment Center works.
When sewage arrives at the water treatment center, it first removes large debris in a settling basin. In the game, collect the garbage within the time limit.
Collect trash with a stylus. Even adults are fascinated by this.
Next, let's use the power of microorganisms to remove dirt from the water. In the game, you'll manipulate microbes to feed on the dirt! Be careful as the action of microorganisms will be weakened if oil adheres.
In the next section, we will learn about the types of microorganisms. When you look through the scope, there are microorganisms! ! It was very easy to remember because it was expressed in cute illustrations.
Learn with illustrations and quizzes! "Nagoya Sewerage History and Future Zone"
Next, we went to the "History and Future Zone of Nagoya Sewerage".
I was surprised to learn that more than 100 years have passed since the sewage system was built in Nagoya City. There is also a quiz section that is popular with children!
Challenge the popular game! "Sewer maintenance zone"
In the Sewer Pipe Maintenance Zone on the other side, you can see what kind of inspection work is being done every day to protect the sewer pipes.
The “Sewerage Virtual Adventure” is very popular in this zone. This is a game where you become an avatar of water and explore the sewers. Editorial Team staff immediately tried it!
Found a clog in the sewer! Move your body and destroy it. It's pretty good exercise!
The result was a whopping No. 1! The ranking is updated daily, so many children enjoy repeating it.
There are also measures you can take yourself! "Disaster Preparedness Zone"
Further in the back is the "Disaster Preparedness Zone". Here, visitors can learn what they can do to prepare for disasters that may occur at any time, as well as what measures Nagoya City has in place.
The role of sewage systems is not limited to the treatment of domestic and industrial wastewater. Sewerage also plays an important role in treating rainwater during heavy rainfall.
What would happen if rainwater collected in front of the door when trying to get out of the building?
At this experience corner, visitors can feel the weight of the door when it is flooded up to about 40 cm. It was heavy enough that an adult could manage to open the door by pushing as hard as he/she could.
During an actual disaster, you may be unsteady on your feet, or you may be in a panic and not be able to exert yourself. In the event of a disaster, open the door and secure the line of flow.
"Drainage Simulation Game" teaches you in two games what you can do to prepare for heavy rains and how to protect your city when it rains heavily.
Challenge one of them, "What you can do in advance game"!
Through the game, we were able to learn practical countermeasures such as "cleaning the rainwater tank", "checking the hazard map", and "installing Namiuke-kun".
Finally, let's go outdoors!
A large collection of Maintenance hole covers from all over the country!
Maintenance hole from all over Japan are displayed outdoors. Each Maintenance hole has its own distinct regional characteristics. It is said that Maintenance hole with such a high design quality are rare in the world. On your way home, you will surely want to look at your feet as you walk!
