I tried a bonsai-making workshop!
Kitowa regularly holds workshops with bonsai artists as instructors.
Since it is a content that can be completed in one time, even beginners can feel free to participate. What I experienced this time was "Snowdrop bonsai making (3,000 yen, materials included)".
Snowdrops are bulbous plants that bloom in February and March with white, drooping flowers. As a flower that heralds spring, snowdrops can be enjoyed from the cold season to early spring, and are arranged in Japanese-style pots with moss.
Kito, the instructor, is good at making cute flowers into bonsai. She is an artist who aims to create something that is modern and easy to incorporate into daily life.
First, choose your favorite seedlings and pots prepared by Kito. It can be a bonsai with only snowdrops, or it can be combined with wild grasses, so I chose a wild grass with red fruits called "Hime Yabu Koji" from several kinds of seedlings and tried planting with snowdrops.
Place the pot bottom net in the pot.
Remove the seedlings from the pots and remove the soil. After removing the soil to one-third of the base, place the plant.
Put the blended soil for bonsai into the pot.
Use disposable chopsticks to gently poke the soil so that it spreads all the way to the bottom.
Once the soil is deep in, water it now.
For watering, submerge in the water like this and soak in plenty of water. I was surprised by this method because I thought it would be sprayed with a mist sprayer.
Finally, it's time to put the moss on.
If the moss floats, it will dry out and die. To prevent this, apply the moss while pressing it down with tweezers so that it adheres firmly to the soil.
Finally, Kito arranged it and it was completed.
The time required was one hour. It was a very short and enjoyable time, as I was absorbed in the plants and soil. I became very attached to the plants I made.
Finally, I learned how to manage. I will take good care of you!
The plant will grow about 10 centimeters later, and will flower soon. I am looking forward to the future growth.
Details of the workshop can be found here.

Bonsai require more work than other plants, and it is difficult to reapply moss and replant them yourself. This shop also holds "maintenance sessions" on an irregular basis, where customers can bring their purchased bonsai to the store and have a bonsai artist check the condition of their bonsai. With the full support, it seems that you can enjoy your life with plants to the fullest.
“When I started the shop, I wanted to provide plants and miscellaneous goods, but more and more people are interested in the workshops. I want to cherish the time to provide such a space. There are many people who are worried about how to grow plants in the future after buying them, so I would like to be able to help them,” she talked to me.
The store name Kitowa comes from the idea of circulating with nature. Just as people, things, and plants form a circle and everything is connected, it looks like it will be a place where many circles will continue to spread. Please come and visit them to find what you like.
