Boasting over 90 years of history
What is Koyoen, a long-established beer garden in Nagoya?
The craft beers served at KOYOEN are brewed at the Nagoya Beer Garden, Koyoen, located at Chikusa ward in Nagoya City. Koyoen first opened in 1931 as a reception area for the Nagoya factory of Sapporo Breweries, and has since then attracted so many people that it has become synonymous with Nagoya's beer gardens.
Koyoen brews 3 types of craft beer, and these beers are only available at 2 locations in Nagoya: Koyoen and KOYOEN. If you visit KOYOEN, be sure to try draft craft beer directly from the brewery.
KOYOEN's commitment to craft beer
At KOYOEN, you can always enjoy three types of craft beer made at Koyoen: Koyoen Golden Ale, Koyoen Weizen, and Koyoen Dark Weizen.
The charm of craft beer is that the brewery's individuality is strong and the taste is complex, but when Koyoen launched craft beer (called local beer at the time), it was not very familiar. Therefore, it is characterized by a taste that is close to the basic taste, so that you can get used to the taste first.
This commitment remains unchanged to this day, and the traditional taste and production methods have been handed down from generation to generation.
・Koyoen Golden Ale
It uses Nelson Saubin, a rare hop, and features a scent and accent like white wine. It's fruity and refreshing to drink, so it's recommended as the first beer.
・Koyoen Weizen
More than 50% wheat malt is used. It is characterized by the fruity aroma of yeast, the flavor of malt, and the refreshing mouthfeel. It has a low bitterness, so even people who don't like the bitterness of beer will find it easy to drink.
・Koyoen Dark Weizen
A cloudy beer with brown malt added to a weizen base. It has a beautiful amber-like reddish-brown color and a fragrant caramel aroma.
If you are not sure which beer to choose, a set of beers to compare is recommend!
At KOYOEN, you can taste 9 kinds of draft beer, including beer made in Koyoen, domestically produced craft beer, and the classic SAPPORO Black Label.
Domestic craft beers include "SORACHI1984" made with the legendary hop Sorachi Ace and "Hakuhonoka" sold only in the Tokyo metropolitan area and Aichi Prefecture, so you can try and compare three types of beer depending on your mood and taste. The drinking comparison set is served in a cute boot-shaped glass, and it looks and feels great!
Excellent compatibility with craft beer!
Diverse food menu
KOYOEN is particular about not only beer but also dishes that go well with alcohol. In addition to grilled dishes such as lamb chops, steaks, and sausages, the "Tokai 3 Prefectures Delicious Food" menu, which has selected ingredients from Aichi, Gifu, and Mie, such as Hida beef, log shiitake mushrooms, Aichi Mikawa pork, and Hida Takayama kyurunonche, is also popular.
In addition, the kushikatsu and grilled lamb chops can be ordered from one, and each menu has a solo size, making it easy for one person to use. I also recommend the marriage plate where you can eat small portions of various dishes.
KOYOEN's recommended dishes that you want to try at least once
I will introduce you to the special dishes that KOYOEN recommends with confidence.
Lamb chop grill with 6 flavors to choose from
Lamb chops are cut from the bone-in loin of lamb less than 12 months old, and are tender and juicy with little smell characteristic of lamb. The volume is just right for those times when you want to eat meat, but steak might be a bit heavy.
Another great feature is that you can choose from six flavors and order from just one.
・Salt & Pepper: Because of its simple taste, it brings out the umami and flavor of rum.
・Ethnic taste: The taste of rum and spiciness are a perfect match. Beer goes on too.
Harissa: Chili and spice sauce. A popular taste when you get addicted to the ethnic spiciness.
・Avocado Wasabi: Avocado adds richness and is accented with wasabi that is not too strong. Recommended for people who don't like the peculiarity of lamb.
・Gochujang flavor: The sweet and spicy flavor goes well with rum. It has a lingering aftertaste.
・Mustard: Goes well with lamb fat and has a surprisingly light taste.

The umami of pork created by skilled techniques! Hida Takayama Kyurnonche Platter
"Curnonche" is not the name of a dish, but the name of an atelier that makes processed pork products in Hida Takayama. Using a pork processing technique with a 2,000-year history in Europe, they offer "smoked pork belly," "white mold dried sausage," and "cured ham" made from Kagoshima Kurobuta pork.
The richness of the fat that melts on your tongue and the perfect amount of salt go well with craft beer. Recommended for those who want to enjoy the marriage with wine.
The garnish of olives and figs boiled in beer is also a nice point.
Crisp and juicy with rich flavor and aroma. Log shiitake mushroom beer frit with matcha salt
Fritto made with raw wood shiitake mushrooms from "Shiitake Brothers" grown in Kawabe-cho, Kamo-gun, Gifu Prefecture. Log-grown shiitake mushrooms, which are easily affected by the natural environment, are cultivated using traditional methods without the use of pesticides.
The frites, which are thick, fragrant, and packed with umami, wrapped in a crispy batter, have many repeat customers.
I also recommend adding the two types of salt that come with the frites. The matcha salt (on the plate on the right in the photo) brings out the umami and aroma of the shiitake mushrooms, and adding Cajun spices (on the plate on the left in the photo) completely changes the atmosphere, so you can keep eating without getting tired of it.
Recommended for those who want a little bit of everything! Mariage Plate for Craft Beer
The Mariage Plate is recommended for those who drink alone and cannot eat too much, or who prefer to enjoy mainly drinks rather than food.
You can enjoy as many as 8 kinds of simple snacks that complement craft beer.
It is also attractive that ingredients loved in the Tokai region such as Moriguchi pickled butter are used. In particular, the "Moriguchi pickled butter", which uses moriguchi pickles instead of raisins, is a popular menu item that many people order separately.
Other items include iburigakko (pickled ginger), camembert cheese, olives, potato salad, and wasabi-flavored crackers, and finding original combinations is another way to enjoy the dish.
The "Marriage Plate Set 1,408 yen (tax included)", which comes with a glass of your favorite beer, is also a good deal.
