The newly opened FabCafe Nagoya is located in the reborn Hisaya Odori Park.
Since FabCafe was established in Shibuya, Tokyo in 2012, it has expanded to 12 locations in 8 countries around the world. As a place to bring out the creativity of people, this cafe is equipped with digital fabrication machines such as laser cutters and 3D printers so that anyone can create things freely.
This time, we tried making things using a UV printer!
FabCafe Nagoya is located in the newly opened RAYARD Hisaya-odori Park in Hisaya Odori Park. 3 minutes walk from Nagoya Municipal Subway Hisaya Odori Station.
Wi-Fi and power outlets are open to the public free of charge, so it's perfect as a working space! You can also use it as a cafe to enjoy lunch or tea time.
Feel free to try "digital manufacturing"!
The biggest feature of FabCafe is that you can freely enjoy "digital manufacturing" using laser cutters and UV printers. You can choose from two methods: using Drop-in, which is accepted at the cafe on the day, or by making an online reservation for a specified time in advance.
If you want to make things more casually, they have a wide variety of "hands-on kits" for making coasters, wood stamps, etc!
This time, we decided to try making a "motel key holder (¥1,600)" and "tote bag (¥1,800)" using a UV printer.
Start with a motel keyholder. The color of the plate is chosen by looking at the sample design. This time, we chose white!
Once you have decided on a color for your plate, scan the QR code to import the design you want to print. Keep the design data on your smartphone! If you have created it in Adobe Illustrator format, you can use a USB.
After importing the data, you and the staff will decide on the placement of the design on the computer.
When using the digital fabrication machine, the staff will support you, so even beginners can take on the challenge without worry!
The UV printer is finally here! First, the design is printed on paper.
Carefully align the plate so that it does not shift from the printed area. When all preparations are complete, start printing!
Wear UV protective glasses when looking at the printing machine as the UV light is harmful to your eyes! You can also rent it out.
It was ready in no time. It takes about 5 minutes. It ended up looking pretty good!
A jump ring is threaded through the finished plate.
The final work was completed safely even though it was a little difficult!
It is quite an accomplishment!
Manufacturing is still going on! Next is making a tote bag.
First, decide where you want to print.
After deciding on the placement, insert the plate into the area to be irradiated and tape it firmly.
As in the previous step, the height and position of the UV printer head is also adjusted carefully after the design is imported here.
Press the button to start printing! It's exciting!
I watch it being printed and wonder if it's doing well.
The pattern was gradually being printed! Isn't it nice?
This one was also completed in no time! It turned out very well.
The completed "motel key holder" & "tote bag". Both are very well done. They turned out exactly as we had imagined! We were surprised at how easy it was to make.
This time, we printed a self-designed picture, but you can print anything you like, including photos and images you have taken yourself. Some people come here to make gifts or to prepare for a wedding.
In this day and age, you can buy anything you want with money, so we think it is very important to learn how things work and how much effort it takes to make something you hold in your hand, and to try making it yourself!
Isn't FabCafe Nagoya the perfect place where you can experience the wonder of making such things as casually as having a cup of tea?
Above all, when you make something yourself, you become even more attached to it. Please come to FabCafe Nagoya and experience the fun of making things!
