[Film camera in hand] Visiting filming locations for the movie "A Day with No Name" set in Nagoya

Hello. I'm Kanae, a photographer.

This time, with a film camera in hand, I visited the filming locations of the movie "A Day with No Name" set in Nagoya!

This movie is based on a true story that happened to director Yuichi Hibi. Filming took place mainly in Atsuta Ward, the hometown of director Yuichi Hibi.

<Synopsis>
It is Masatoshi Nagase who plays the role of Tatsuya, the main character. After living abroad as a photographer, he returned to Atsuta-ku, Nagoya City when he heard the news of his brother's death. Joe Odagiri will play the second son, Akihito, who chose to lead a life of self-destruction, and Nobuaki Kaneko will play the third son, Takashi, who has bravely supported his brothers. Yoko Maki plays the wife, Maki.
The eldest son, Tatsuya, returns to his parents' house after a long time, and the story progresses without being able to release the shutter in the overwhelming reality. Miki Imai will play the role of Akemi, a classmate whose time has stopped due to an accident in the past, and Midori Kiuchi will play the classmate's mother. Tatsuya finally takes a step forward while feeling the local human relationships.

Endoji Shopping Street

I started my tour of filming locations from Endoji Shopping Street.
According to my research, it seems that only the last reminiscence scene was filmed at Endoji Shopping Street.
The scene where the three brothers are shopping was filmed at "Matsukawaya"

It seems that the photo was taken in front of the shop here, so it was easier to find the shop in the background than "Matsukawaya".

②Ogashira Otobashi

After Endoji, I rent a bicycle nearby and head for the next filming location, Otobashi Park!
I found a place where the main character Masatoshi Nagase was walking near the park!

As an aside, the public bathhouse at the end of this road was very nice.
(I want such public baths to remain forever.)

③ Atsuta Shrine

Next, we will aim for the west gate of Atsuta Jingu.
I believe this is where the boy in the fox mask was filmed. This is the first time that a movie will be shot at Atsuta Shrine!

④ Oseko Park

After taking a picture near the west gate, ride a bicycle and head to "Oseko Park".
I searched for places in the park where I could take the same photos as those on the location map.

"Oseko Park" seems to be the place where the fish market used to be.

⑤ Miyanowatashi Park

In the immediate vicinity is another filming location, "Miyanowatashi Park".
In the movie, the main character's parents' house is also nearby, and it appears several times as a familiar place. During the Edo period, it prospered as a post town on the fifty-three stages of the Tokaido, and it is said that boats departed from here to Kuwana. It's a historical place.

⑥ Jingu Koji

Next, head toward Jingumae Station on the opposite side of the West Gate.
Near the station is an alley called "Jingu Koji," which is one street in the back. It is lined with stores with a retro atmosphere as if time has stopped. This is a place where it would take courage to enter in private.

In the movie, it appears as a shop run by the main character's classmate. A Chinese restaurant called "Enraku" was used for shooting.

⑦ Atsuta Jingumae Shopping Street

Shooting was also done at "Atsuta Jingumae Shopping Street" just off "Jingu Koji".
This is the shooting location for the scene where the main character is hit by the rain.
It was the very edge. "Atsuta Jingumae Shopping Street" is very long.

Most of the shops were shuttered, but there was a melon bakery shop "POPO" that the director likes, and a stylish coffee shop nearby.

This is as far as you can go by bicycle.

Later on, I had something to do nearby, so I went to Yokkaichi, another filming location!

⑧ Yokkaichi City

First of all, "Himono Shokudo"

Since it was lunch time, it was crowded with many people.
It seems that it was used for shooting near the vending machine at the corner of the dining room.

For the shooting, it seems that the old vending machine was installed, and the shutters of the store were decorated with art decorations.

Next, I head to "Isozu Jetty".
The scene where the main character and his brother talk was shot in the morning glow.
I should have gone there to shoot the sunrise, but I thought it was sunset before I headed there. ...... Sorry, the weather was beautiful in the daytime too.

When I peeked in, I saw that many people were shell-gathering!

You have now conquered the entire location map! Thanks for your hard work!

This film was shot almost entirely in Nagoya.
The director himself says the following.

I believe that this film will make people feel that drama can be created even in the places where we usually walk.

"A Day with No Name" was released after 3 years, when life suddenly changed due to Corona.

The Atsuta Festival (Shobu Matsuri), which could not be filmed this time, has a very important role in the film. I hope that next year the corona will be settled and the festival can be held safely.

Exclusive photographer for Alive Co., Ltd. I usually take photos to be used on the website, but also photos to be published in various media.

I will be posting at my leisure, but I will be sending out information about the charms of Nagoya through photographs.
