"Gyoza New Fushimi" is a sister store of "Gyoza Mania", a gyoza specialty restaurant that was selected as a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
The signature dish is the exquisite gyoza, which is made by kneading the dough and filling the dough after receiving an order. The owner has faithfully reproduced the taste he fell in love with in Beijing, China. He learned the basics of how to make these dumplings from local people and created his own original recipe.
This time, we will give a thorough report on everything from the signature gyoza to the Nagoya limited menu!
The location is conveniently located, about a 1-minute walk from the Fushimi Underground Shopping Street exit of the Fushimi Municipal Subway Station. It's easy to stop by on your way home from work.
The concept of the restaurant is a Chinese food stall. You will feel as if you have taken a little trip to China. The restaurant has 53 seats and a terrace with 9 seats, so on a fine day, it is nice to have a drink while feeling the night breeze.
The secret to its popularity lies in the “freshly wrapped”!
The secret to their popularity is the “freshly wrapped” dumplings, which are made by stretching the skin after receiving an order. The home-made skins that have been aged are used separately for grilled gyoza and boiled gyoza. The sight of craftsmen cooking in an open kitchen will further enhance your travel mood.
First of all, this! Freshly wrapped, freshly baked "yaki gyoza"
If you visit Gyoza New Fushimi, this is the dish to start! There are two types of baked gyoza: vegetable and meat.
We started with vegetables recommended by the staff. The freshly wrapped dumplings have a chewy skin! You don't even need to put anything on the dumplings, as the umami flavor spreads through your mouth. The crispy, chewy homemade skin is a perfect match with the sweetness of the vegetables. You can eat as many as you want.
Next, we tried the meat filling. The umami flavor is even more intense than that of the vegetable filling! The filling is not greasy at all, even though it is filled with a lot of meat. It is a perfect marriage when paired with Taiwanese beer. Personally, I recommend the meat filling to go with beer or Shaoxing wine!
“Boiled dumplings” with chewy and plump texture is addictive
There are 4 types of boiled gyoza: shrimp, coriander, perilla, and green pepper. Homemade skins for boiled dumplings are used.
Especially impressive were the bell pepper dumplings. Green peppers in dumplings? We tried it and found that the crunchy texture of the green pepper matched the glutinous texture of the homemade skin! The slight bitterness is also an accent. It is said to be a taste of home in China.
Only available in Nagoya! Soupless Tantan Boiled Gyoza
There is also a limited menu that can only be eaten in Nagoya! "Soupless tantan boiled gyoza" is full of sweet and salty minced meat and Chinese chives. It's not as spicy as it looks, so even people who don't like spicy food can enjoy it.
Not just gyoza! Featured Products
Chinese street food taste! Yaki Reimen
The charm of "Gyoza New Fushimi" is that although it is a gyoza specialty store, it has a wide variety of menus other than gyoza.
First of all, "Yaki Reimen" (baked cold noodles) recommended by the staff. First of all, I was surprised by the visual that is completely different from Japanese cold noodles. Yaki Reimen is a sheet of cold noodles wrapped in egg and baked.
It has salty-sweet
sauce. When you take a bite, you'll notice the chewy texture unique to that cold noodle. Strangely enough, we couldn't stop eating it.
The homemade sauce will whet your appetite! "Yodaredori"
"Yodaredori" (Drooling chicken) uses thigh meat cooked at a low temperature. The slightly spicy homemade sauce will whet your appetite. With plenty of coriander. It's a dish that goes well with alcohol and rice.
"Foreign crispy peppers" that you can't stop with the crispy texture
We ordered the "foreign crispy peppers" attracted by the mysterious name. It is served with salt. One bite and they are sweet! Crunchy! It goes well with salt! They are the kind of thing you want on your table as a chopstick rest.
Extensive drink menu
Shaoxing wine from the jar
They are also very particular about the drinks that go well with their dishes.
First up is the Shaoxing wine, carefully selected by the owner after tasting and comparing over 20 varieties. There are 10 year old ones and 25 year old ones.
In addition, there are plenty of drinks that make you feel China, such as Chinese shochu “Baijiu” and Taiwanese beer.
Plenty of Chinese tea
For those who are not good at alcohol, Chinese tea is recommended!
Three types of tea: Fujian Oolong tea, Fujian Jasmine tea, and Yunnan Pu'er tea. Hot tea is served in a teapot, so you can enjoy it in a relaxed atmosphere. When you finish drinking, please ask the staff to add more hot water for you.
“Gyoza New Fushimi” is a place where you can taste exquisite gyoza while enjoying the feeling of traveling. Once you eat the freshly wrapped gyoza, you will be addicted to it. There is no doubt that it will become a popular store. Please come and visit them.
