Can you make a Turkish lamp? Many people may wonder if it is possible to make a Turkish lamp. However, at Kinari, you can create your own original Turkish lamp in about three hours!

This time, we tried our hand at making a Turkish lamp, and we are pleased to share with you how it turned out.

What is a Turkish lamp?

Kinari

Turkish lamps, as the name suggests, are traditional Turkish lamps. Its history is long, and it has been used in palaces and mosques since the Ottoman Turkish period. Its colorful mosaic-patterned design is eye-catching.

It can be used as a lighting fixture, of course, but it can also be used to create an oriental atmosphere. Its exotic appearance makes it a very popular item that will elevate your interior design.

The popular craft shop "Kinari" in Yaba-cho is holding such a Turkish lamp workshop. At Kinari, you can experience making various things, including making Turkish lamps.

The location is on the 2nd floor of the building just after exit 4 of Yabacho Station on the Meijo Subway Line. Because it's close to the station, many tourists come to commemorate their trip, and many people come to experience it between concerts.

Kinari offers a variety of shapes, including stand type (S, M, L 5,600 yen and up), round stand type (6,300 yen) pendant type single chain (S, M, L 5,800 yen and up), and hanging stand type (S, M, L 5,800 yen and up).

Everything is included, such as material costs, classroom fees, outlets, light bulbs, stands, and ceiling parts, so you can rest assured.

Design & material selection

This time, we decided to try a stand type M size! The necessary tools are set in the tray.

You can create the design as you like, or you can use the pattern paper as shown here to help you decide on the design. There are designs that range in difficulty from high to low, so you can choose the design you like best.

If you are worried about it, it is also recommended to imitate the lamp in the store.

Once the design is decided, it is time to select the material to be attached to the base glass. The glass is cut from a single plate by a Turkish craftsman, so the slightly different shape is one of the charms of handmade.

All other materials are also imported directly from Turkey.

Material selection

Before exposing it to light, the color looks much darker. Some colors look the same, so we choose colors by checking the sample chart or by holding them up to the light.

I struggled with the choice of materials, which was surprisingly difficult (laughs).
