The handmade custard pudding (500 yen) that fits perfectly in a retro glass vessel with white whipped cream and bright red cherries will make you exclaim, "So cute!" I was surprised that it was firmer than I expected. The sweetness is modest and you can eat it even after having a meal. It may be sold out, so it might be better to order early.

We have a feeling that the exquisite "custard pudding," newly created with a Showa-era atmosphere, will become a new specialty of Kissa Honey Sugar!

Seiji Shigeno, the current second-generation owner, and his daughter Kaho

– Please tell us about the history of the shop.

Mr. Seiji Shigeno (hereafter, Seiji-san): “My father originally ran Shimeno Sugar Industry Co., Ltd. next door, and I am the second generation owner of that company. When this vacant lot was put up for sale, I bought it because I thought it would be a good place  for company trucks to come and go. And we decided to open a cafe since there was this building. Although it has undergone renovations, it has remained almost unchanged for 40 years. ”

– Since when did Seiji-san become the second owner?

Seiji-san: "It's been about 5 or 6 years since it's been gradually replaced. When I was in junior high school, this place was established and I used to help out from time to time. I was attached to it, and naturally I wanted to do it.”

– Is it run by your family?

Seiji: "Most likely. My wife and I and sometimes part-time worker. Also, my daughter is currently in her fourth year of college, so she helps me when she has time."

Kaho Shigeno (hereinafter referred to as Kaho-san): "It's going to be a little far away (laughs)."

– Were Kaho-san's ideas for new menus and information dissemination?

Seiji-san: "Yes. I started using Instagram around July of this year (2021), and thankfully, the number of young customers who have come to see Instagram has increased significantly.My wife and I were honestly surprised at first. "Are you coming this far?" He brought a big camera and took pictures of the food before we ate it. ”

Kaho-san: “I have friends take pictures for me, and I have my own camera, so I take pictures myself to help spread the word. ” and “Coffee Jelly”. ”

The retro-style menu board designed by Kaho-san fits the atmosphere of the restaurant.

A number of gunpla that Seiji-san suddenly started arranging in his store about a year ago. The works of everyone in the "Gundam Kai" formed by friends from junior high school are also lined up. "I want you to see Gundam too~ (lol)" said Seiji-san, while Kaho-san also laughed and gently retorted, "I don't need it~". I was so happy to see the two of them getting along so well.
