First, let me explain a little bit about Kinshachi Alley (Kinshachi Yokocho in Japanese).
Kinshachi Alley is a dining facility modeled after the castle town of Nagoya Castle. It is made up of two areas: the traditional Nagoya food area "Seimon/Yoshinao Zone'' where you can eat classic and long-established Nagoya Meshi, and the "Higashimon/Muneharu Zone'' an area with a new style and change where new restaurants are lined up. .
The purpose of this project is to enhance the attractiveness of Nagoya Castle, the symbol of Owari-Nagoya, and the surrounding area, and to communicate the attractions of Nagoya to visitors from Japan and abroad.
It is truly a spot packed with the charm of Nagoya's food.
"Yoshinao Zone", Traditional and orthodox area
First, let's go to the traditional and orthodox area "Yoshinao Zone". It was named after Yoshinao Tokugawa, the first lord of the Owari domain.
The building was designed in the image of a traditional pure Japanese townscape, and the buildings are made of Kiso timber, which was also used when Nagoya Castle was built. On either side of the white granite-lined passageway, row houses with tiled roofs stand side by side, offering visitors the exciting sensation of stepping back in time to the castle town of the Owari domain.
Speaking of miso cutlet in Nagoya, this is the place! Long-established Yabaton founded in 1947. "Yabaton Nagoya Kinshachi Alley Branch"
Yamamotoya Kinshachi Alley Branch, a long-established store of Nagoya's specialty "Miso Nikomi Udon", founded over 90 years ago
Founded in 1878, "Owariya", a long-established pickle store that has been in business for 140 years
The "Yoshinao Zone" features 10 restaurants and 2 souvenir shops centered on Nagoya food. A large selection of Nagoya's best restaurants, from traditional long-established establishments to popular stores. Many original menus that can only be tasted here are also available.
We will introduce recommended foods in such "Yoshinao Zone".
Miso dengaku from Nagoya Tofu Kawaguchi
"Nagoya Tofu Kawaguchi"
First of all, one dish from "Nagoya Tofu Kawaguchi".
"Nagoya Tofu Kawaguchi" is a long-established tofu shop with a history of over 70 years, founded in 1934. You can enjoy tofu gourmet, sweets, soy milk, etc. made with carefully selected ingredients such as domestic soybeans and well water.
Miso dengaku ¥500 (3 sticks)
Miso dengaku is baked after receiving an order, so you can eat it piping hot. Fragrantly grilled tofu and rich miso are irresistible. You can really feel the flavor of the beans in the tofu, so it's as good as miso.
It has a gentle flavor that will make you smile. You can also eat in at the adjacent Yabaton restaurant for a "Dengaku Gozen" (³,620).
Beef Tendon & Pork Kushikatsu at “Sugimoto Gyu-nabe”
Gyusuji (beef tendon) ¥150
Pork Kushikatsu ¥150
We will continue to introduce miso gourmet.
Skewered gourmet from Sugimoto, a meat specialty store with over 100 years of history. "Gyusuji" (beef tendon) has a crunchy texture and plump fat. You can choose sauce or miso for "pork skewer cutlet", but this time I tried the sauce. Both are flavors that make you want beer.
In addition, there are plenty of to-go menus that are perfect to accompany sake, such as Kinshachi croquette (¥100), mince cutlet (¥200), ham cutlet (¥150), and doteni (¥280).
Eel Inari from Hitsumabushi Nagoya Bincho
Hitsumabushi Nagoya Bincho
From Hitsumabushi Nagoya Bincho, we will introduce a limited menu that can only be eaten at Kinshachi Alley.
The special feature of Bincho is that each eel is carefully grilled, then dipped in a sauce made from tamari soy sauce to ensure a crispy exterior and crispy flesh. This restaurant has locations all over the country, including Osaka and Fukuoka, but ``Unagi Inari'' and `` Kinshachi Hitsumabushi'' are limited menu items that can only be tasted here.
This time, I tried the "Unagi Inari" (eel inari), which is available in limited quantities. It took about 10 minutes to receive my order. Since it comes wrapped in a box like this, it makes a perfect souvenir.
Unagi Inari ¥1,300
There are 8 Unagi inari in the box. It's a bite size, so it looks good to share and eat.
There is eel-mabushi rice inside the light flavored fried tofu. The crunchy texture of the lotus roots wrapped with it and the small amount of wasabi add a nice accent. It's so refreshing that you can eat as many as you want. This is sure to be a hit when given as a souvenir.
Kinshachi Alley Original "Fuka Dora (Dorayaki)"
It's about time I want something sweet~ At that time, I found dorayaki in a package that caught my attention at the souvenir shop "Nagomiya".
Fuka DORA ¥216
This is "Fuka-Dora" produced by Patisserie FUKAYA in Obu, Aichi Prefecture. Kinshachi Alley package that can only be purchased here. Moist and plump dorayaki made with a mixture of tsubu-an from Hokkaido and fermented butter from the Auvergne region of France.
Inside is anko (sweet bean paste) and light cream. The texture is light and fluffy, so it is easy to eat. The package is also very nice, so it is recommended as a souvenir.
Kinshachi Alley original "Judaime Gisuke Beer"
In the store, you can taste the sake for a fee.
While thinking that Kinshachi Alley has a lot of limited items, I headed to "Judaime Gisuke" across from "Nagomiya" and found limited items here as well.
"Judaime Gisuke (Gisuke the 10th)" is an antenna shop specializing in sake operated by Chitazen Co., Ltd., selling local sake related to Aichi Prefecture, Nagoya, and Nagoya Castle.
Judaime Gisuke Beer ¥500/bottle
The original "Judaime Gisuke Beer" is only available at this store. It has a cute illustration of Nagoya Castle on the front. The "day" beer on the left has a foamy, reddish bronze color with a slightly aromatic malt flavor and a fruity taste. The "night" beer on the right is a black beer with a slightly burnt aroma.
The seats are standing bar style at the counter and 3 table seats for 2 people. How about enjoying a quick drink while walking around eating?
A new and changing area "Muneharu Zone"
It takes about 5 minutes to walk from "Yoshinao Zone". I came to "Muneharu Zone".
The "Muneharu Zone" was named after the 7th feudal lord, Muneharu Tokugawa. The building has a modern design to differentiate it from the Yoshinao Zone. New trends in the Nagoya restaurant scene, such as "Ankake Spa" and "Taiwan Mazesoba", are gathered at the opening stores. In addition, there are 7 shops where you can enjoy casually, such as Italian bars and cafes.
Here, we'll introduce two unique ice creams that you'll want to take pictures of!
Cafe diner POP OVER "Ninja Ice Cream"
Ninja Ice Cream ¥540 (tax included)
First is the very cute "Ninja Ice Cream". Cookies and Pocky are used to represent a ninja carrying a sword and shuriken. The pink mask is a mochi skin. Inside was vanilla ice cream. The vanilla beans are effective and the taste is quite authentic.
Not only does it look good, but it tastes good too. Kids will surely enjoy this sweet. (Just be careful during the hot season, as the Ninja ice cream on the cone makes it a little hard to eat.)
Kinshachi Alley Soft Serve at "vegetable cafe & seafood bar saien"
Kinshachi Alley Soft Serve 980 yen (tax included)
Here is another "Kinshachi Alley ice cream" with maximum impact. It is lavishly decorated with gold leaf from Kanazawa gold leaf manufacturer "Hakuichi". On this day, there were three choices: "Black Oolong Soft Serve", "Aichi Milk Soft Serve", and "Mix Soft Serve", but I chose the "Aichi Milk".
The soft-serve ice cream made with plenty of Aichi milk is very rich. This is also an ice cream that you can enjoy not only the appearance but also the taste. I didn't really feel the taste of gold leaf, but just looking at it made me excited.
On the back side, there is "Oiri", which is famous as a wedding sweets. Gold leaf and Oiri. It is a very lucky soft serve ice cream.
"Kinshachi Alley" was strongly recognized as a tourist spot, but we were able to enjoy plenty of gourmet food while walking. When we live in the area, we rarely have the opportunity to eat the local specialties. But wouldn't it be nice to experience the local food in the form of eating while walking?
