[Tajimi] "Tajimi Mosaic Tile Museum" was full of hints for building a house!
Table of Contents
The 4th floor exhibition room
The fourth floor exhibition room displays tile products collected from all over Japan and carefully selected by Terunobu Fujimori. Visitors can see everything from tile art to items that were actually used in daily life, such as tile paintings from public bathhouses, a sink covered with old-fashioned small tiles, and picture tiles with a pattern on each tile. It was exciting to look at them while imagining, "If I were to make a custom-made washstand, I would use this kind of color scheme!". The retro color scheme will also be helpful in creating a home.
Tile curtains that focus on how to show
The "tile curtain" stands out in the exhibition room on the 4th floor. It is proposed as a new way to showcase tiles, and is connected with tiles of various sizes and shapes. If you look closely at the tiles, you can find tiles in the shape of goldfish or flowers, so please find your favorite tile and have a look.
The 3rd floor exhibition room where you can learn about the history of tiles
The third floor is a place that traces the history of mosaic tile manufacturing and sales. Visitors can learn the entire process of tile making: kneading clay, pressing, glazing, and firing.
The glaze used to color the mosaic tiles is very beautiful.
When I realized that the tiles that are so familiar to us in our daily lives were actually produced so close to us, my attachment to them began to grow, and I began to feel a sense of love for them.
2nd floor showroom recommended for those who are building a house
A business meeting space is also provided.
After learning about tile, let's go to the second floor. The second floor is a showroom where you can find the latest tile information. Not only are tiles from various manufacturers lined up, but you can actually touch them. For those who are planning to build a house or renovate a house, this is definitely a place that will be helpful for your home building project.
By selecting the color and type on the tablet like this, you can also find out which manufacturer handles what kind of tiles.
There are such cute cat tiles. As a cat lover, I can't get enough of them.
And what is amazing about this showroom is that you can purchase tiles from a single sheet. The tiles range from the popular ones to the rare ones that are usually unavailable. This is the only place in the Tokai region where the general public can purchase tiles from a single sheet. You would never expect to be able to purchase tiles for building a house at a museum, would you? If they don't have it in stock, they can order it for you, so please ask them.
I asked him how to make good use of tiles in my own home.
If you want to use tiles in your house, but don't know what kind of tiles are suitable, don't worry. There is a concierge counter in the showroom where you can consult with us.
We also interviewed Mr. Kato, the concierge who consults with visitors.
>> Isn't it difficult to put the tiles by yourself?
Mr. Kato: "Of course, you can ask a construction company to do it for you, but you can also put it up yourself more easily than you think. In Japan, DIY has become popular in the last few years, but overseas, DIY culture has long taken root, so everyone paints and tiles the walls by themselves. It's the house they live in, so they arrange it so that it is comfortable for them. Many people think of white or black when it comes to the color of the joints, but just by changing the color of the joints, the atmosphere of the tiles changes drastically, which is another interesting point. I hope people will enjoy building their houses more, including these things."
>>I'd like to try something that's easy to do first.
Mr. Kato:“I also recommend putting tiles on the flower pot like this. It's an easy way to get started, and it also makes a great interior accent, so give it a try."
It seems that the goldfish tile is a manufacturer that makes only this goldfish.
>>Is it recommended to come here before building a house?
Mr. Kato:"Yes, please come here before you start building a house. I recommend that you come here and develop your imagination about building a house before you start working on it. Seeing the actual things will increase your imagination for the house."
>>I see! It's important to come before you start building a house. Mr. Kato, thank you very much for your kind words.
Mr. Kato: "If you have any trouble, please come anytime."
When I heard Mr. Kato's personality and his passionate talk about tiles, I was completely fascinated by the charm of tiles. I feel like I have a clearer idea of how to build a house in the future than before I came here. (*There are currently no plans.)
You should be able to find hints for building a house, such as what you were worried about and what you had a hard time hearing until now.
Experience studio and museum shop on the first floor
On the first floor, there is a all-you-can-pack tile packing experience (500 yen) and workshops that can be enjoyed by children at any time. If I thought this was a museum where I could learn about the charm of tiles, I was surprised to find it to be such a useful place for home building. It is a good place to stop by on a day off, or to go there for reference in home building. Why not visit the Tajimi Mosaic Tile Museum this weekend?
