[Toyota city] "The Ninja Mansion", a Modern Japanese Inn in Toyota City

The Ninja Mansion is located in a small village in Shimosagiri-cho, Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. The Ninja Mansion is a 150 year old house that has been renovated into a modern Japanese-style inn, and is rented out to one group per day, making it popular not only for lodging, but also as a rental space, wedding and pre-wedding photo shoot, and in recent years as a solo camping site.

Only nature around. There are no TVs or clocks. Let us introduce you to the charm of The Ninja Mansion, where you can spend such a relaxing time.

Renovated 150-year-old traditional house

Originally used as a residence, the building was renovated four years ago by Mitsuru Senda, a world-renowned architect and professor emeritus at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, to its current modern Japanese style. The warehouse, main house, row-house gate, and rare horse stables from those days remain intact, giving the building a sense of historical value.

Since many foreign travelers consider "Cool Japanese Thing = Ninja", this name was decided.

Check in here first! "Reception/Apartment"

First of all, when you arrive, check-in and other procedures will be done separately.

Non-personal correspondence is also available as a COVID-19 measure. Only check-in is required to be filled out, but other than that, communication via LINE (messaging app) is also possible, so please inquire if you are interested.

Full of atmosphere with sunken hearth and courtyard: "1st floor of main building"

Because it was a village headman's building, the splendid beams, wood, and floor plan are left as they are.

The first floor is an open space with a series of tatami rooms and a view of the garden from the rooms. When the weather is nice, the windows can be left open to allow for excellent ventilation. The breeze that blows through the room is very pleasant, and the occasional swallows that enter the room are a surprise, but this is also a sight that is unique to this location.

Relaxing on the porch is also a blissful time...

This is a replica of a real sword, but when you hold it in your hand, the weight is quite heavy, and when the sheath is removed, it looks just like the real thing. It is said to be very popular among children, just like in the anime "Demon Slayer".

The wooden figurine of the eagle that is displayed in the alcove is said to have been carved with a single sword.

Enjoy the garden from the back room.

You can also experience matcha (details on the website)

There are 2 sinks and 2 toilets.

Currently, the only bathing facilities are shower rooms, but a Finnish sauna and open-air bath are scheduled to be installed in the future. In addition, a partnership with Shirasagi Onsen, a 10-minute drive away, provides access to natural hot springs.

Japanese modern space is too nice "2nd floor of the main building"

Now, let's go upstairs! It's exciting to go up to the second floor, as if you are going up to the attic.

The bedroom is on the left after going up the stairs.

It is a very nice space with a perfect balance of Japanese and Western tastes: the Japanese taste of the aged, austere colored beams and pillars, and the modernity of the wooden flooring, bed, chairs, and cushions!

The room was originally used as a silkworm room, but Ken Tsuboi, a space designer who has designed many hotels including the Intergate Hotel, coordinated the room while retaining the good qualities of Japanese architecture. The room has been transformed into a cool and stylish space.

It is also attractive that you can relax in your favorite place, such as cushions and chairs.

The casually placed cushions look like an art museum exhibit...

The black walls are not painted, but rather the color created by 150 years of smoking with soot from the hearth on the first floor, a design made possible because the house has been standing for 150 years.

If you ask Alexa placed on the bedside, you can turn off the lights and BGM in one shot!

Mud walls are one of the features of old private houses, but those with ventilation windows like this are very rare. It seems to be one of the most attractive features for those who love old private houses, and there are even guests who go out of their way to sleep near these windows (laugh).

Worked for about 9 years at a publishing company that develops wedding information magazines, beauty products, and food and beverage products. After getting married and retiring, my love for travel increased and I became a freelance writer. Due to a family transfer, I went to Fukuoka and Hiroshima, and currently live in Nagoya. Enjoying and discovering the charms of not only Aichi Prefecture but also the three Tokai prefectures. My specialties are shrines and hot springs, and I also love delicious food. We will deliver "new discoveries" to the "normal" of local people.
