Shino-jima is a remote island that can be reached in about an hour from Nagoya.

The circumference of the island is about 8.2km. It is a small remote island that can be circumnavigated in about two hours on foot. The island is famous for onbe sea bream and puffer fish, and has a deep connection with Ise Jingu. Delicious seafood. A soothing view. You can enjoy island time to your heart's content, forgetting everyday life.

This time, we will introduce the "recommended day trip plans" where you can fully enjoy the charm of Shino-jima.

[Notice] Due to the COVID-19, there may be changes in business hours and temporary closures. Please check the latest information of each facility and store when using.

What kind of island is Shino-jima?

Maehama San-san Beach

Shino-jima, together with Himaka-jima and Saku-shima, is also called "Aichi San-tou (three islands in Aichi)" and belongs to Minamichita-cho, Chita-gun, Aichi Prefecture, and the entire area is included in Mikawa Bay Quasi-National Park. Although it is a small island with a population of about 2,000 and an area of 0.94 square kilometers, it is a beautiful island that has long been called "Matsushima of the Tokai."

"I keep seeing you only in my dreams, and you seem to me like a wave that often crosses over the shore of Shinoshima." And it also appears in Manyoshu.

It is also famous as a famous production area of "tora-fugu (pufferfish)". It is also a gourmet island where you can enjoy various seafood such as whitebait, sea bream, spiny lobster, and bigfin reef squid.

How to get to Shino-jima

To get to Shino-jima, you need to take a high-speed boat from Morozaki Port, Kowako Port on the Chita Peninsula, or Cape Irago on the Atsumi Peninsula.

・By car
If you are going by car from Nagoya, we recommend Morozaki Port. At Morozaki Port, there is a public pay parking lot (100 yen per hour). It takes about 10 minutes by high-speed boat from Morozaki Port to Shino-jima.

・When going by train
If you are going by train from Nagoya, go to Nagoya Railway "Kowa" station. It takes about 45 minutes by express train. From Kowa Station to Kowa Port is a 5-minute walk. A free shuttle bus is also available. From Kowa Port toShino-jima Island is a 30-minute high-speed boat ride.

Shino-jima Day Trip Recommended Plan

This time we actually went to Shino-jima! From specialty gourmet food to historical tourist attractions, we will introduce recommended plans that you can enjoy on a day trip.

Take a high-speed boat from Kowa Station to Shino-jima

Free shuttle bus from Kowa Station to Kowa Port

High-speed ferry ticket office

This time, I went by high-speed boat from Kowa station because it was a train. Buy a ticket at the ticket office and board the ship. (Adult: One way ¥1,420 Round trip ¥2,720 Child: One way ¥720 Round trip ¥1,380)

Just by getting on the boat, you can experience the extraordinary and get excited. After about 30 minutes, we arrived at Shino-jima ferry terminal!

First, head to Shima no Eki SHINOJIMA

Island station SHINOJIMA

First, head to Shima no Eki SHINOJIMA, which is right in front of the ferry terminal.

It is a complex facility with a liner ticket office, a souvenir corner, a light meal corner, a tourist information center, etc. Rental bicycles are also available.

Get maps and pamphlets and plan your trip!

Island station SHINOJIMA

Island station SHINOJIMA

Inside the museum, there is also an exhibition about the history of Shino-jima.

In the souvenir corner, you can find souvenirs unique to Shino-jima, such as "Sea Bream Miso-yaki", which is a local dish of Shino-jima called "Jyuju Miso-yaki" arranged with sea bream, a specialty of Shino-jima.

It is recommended that you purchase your tickets early as they close before the last ship.

Let's find Kobo-sama!

Shino-jima is enshrined with Jizo statues called "Kobo-sama" that surround the island. Including the precincts of each temple, there are 88 Kobo-samas. I can't wait to see how many Kobo-sama I can meet!

Enjoy the seafood of Shino-jima!

Shino-jima boasts abundant seafood, including sea bream and whitebait.

I want to eat delicious seafood! That's why I came to Manzo, a sushi restaurant that has been running for a long time in Shino-jima.

The ingredients will vary depending on the availability of fish and other seafood landed that day. We are excited to see what kind of gourmet foods we can find on Sasajima!

First of all, "Shirasu (whitebait)" boasts the largest catch in Japan. The best time to eat them is from April to December.

I had it boiled and the freshness was totally different! It was so fluffy and had no bitterness that I wondered what the shirasu I had been eating was .......

"Try this one too!" he served me a hairtail dried overnight. The moment you take a bite, the umami spreads out.

We also had sushi made to order. (1,500 yen for this volume!)

Filled with seafood from Shinojima, including pufferfish, sea snails, and Shino-jima eels! Sushi is good because you can enjoy various ingredients.

* The contents change depending on the purchase of the day

Jin

There are many restaurants on the island where you can enjoy fresh shirasu don.

If you want to eat heartily, please check this out.

Take a leisurely stroll around the island

After the meal, let's take a walk around the harbor.

Shino-jima original pattern is attached to the bow of the ship. It seems that there are some patterns.

I saw many scooters on Shino-jima, which has many slopes and narrow roads.

Shinmei Shrine, which has a deep connection with Ise Jingu

Shinmei Shrine

Shinmei Shrine

After climbing the slope, I arrived at "Shinmei Shrine".

Shinmei Shrine, located in the center of Shino-jima, is rebuilt every 20 years using materials from Ise Jingu. It is a shrine that has been deeply connected to Ise Jingu for over 1000 years, such as dedicating "Onbedai (salted sea bream)" every year.

Shinmei Shrine

Of the two shrines on Shino-jima, Shinmei Shrine is the female shrine and Hachioji Shrine is the male shrine, and is visited by many worshipers as the god of marriage.

Hachioji Shrine

Hachioji Shrine

Hachioji Shrine is just a few minutes away on foot. The air here is also dignified and calms my mind.

800m beach "San-san Beach"

San-san beach

San-san beach

Next, go to the 800m beach "San-san Beach"! The people of the island call it “Naiba”.

The sea bathing season was over, so it was crowded with people enjoying fishing.

Look at this transparency! ! Because the beach is close to the open sea, the water quality is good even within Aichi Prefecture. Just looking at the beautiful sea will heal you.

If you walk a little along the coast, you will find an object written as "Lover's Sanctuary"!

In 2017, the Kira-kira Observatory at Cape Taichi in Shino-jima was certified as a lover's sanctuary, and a monument was built at "San-san Beach'' as a satellite spot.

By the way, "Lover's Sanctuary" is a selection of romantic places suitable for proposals from all over the country by the NPO Regional Revitalization Support Center.

Take a break at the Hawaiian cafe "Aina cafe&bar OHANA"

Aina cafe&bar OHANA

As I was walking along, thinking it was time to take a break, I saw a nice white building!

It is a Hawaiian cafe "Aina cafe & bar OHANA" where you can enjoy island gourmet and cafe menu.

I tried the signboard menu "OHANA pancake (1,500 yen)".

Pancakes are fluffy. Plenty of fruit in coconut-flavored whipped cream! It looks quite voluminous, but I could eat it easily.

*Pancakes are made to order and then the meringue and batter are combined and cooked, which takes about 20-30 minutes!

Go to the “Kira-kira Observatory” at Cape Taichi, the sacred place for lovers!

We are now in the second half of our island trip.

Let's go to the "Kira Kira Observatory" at Cape Taichi, the lover's sacred place.

There are two routes to the Kira-kira Observatory. One is a route that passes by Shino-jima Elementary School and Junior High School in the southwestern part of the island. The other is the "Nishiyama Tour Course" which starts from the south of "San-san Beach".

This time, we chose the "Nishiyama Tour Course"!

The cafe staff told me, "Be careful since the road is not paved,'' but it's more of a mountain road than I imagined.

When going on the "Nishiyama Tour Course", please prepare shoes that are easy to walk in.

It takes about 15 minutes to walk while looking at the beautiful mountains and sea.

Kira-kira Observatory

I arrived at the observation deck "Kira-kira Observatory" at the southernmost tip of the island.

There is a torii gate that uses old materials that were handed over during the rebuilding of Ise Jingu, and beyond the torii gate is a power spot overlooking Ise Jingu. You can see Toba, Kamishima, and Irago.

Kahi-koen Observatory, a scenic spot for the setting sun

Kah-koen Observatory

Kahi-koen Observatory

If you go a little further from "Kira-kira Observatory", you will see "Kahi-koen Observatory".

Although we gave up on this day due to the ferry time, this is a spot where you can enjoy the "Matsushima sunset," selected as one of the "100 Best sunsets in Japan".

There are tables and benches, so you can slowly watch the sun going down.

After buying some souvenirs, the trip to Shino-jima ends here. We headed for Kawawa Port, feeling the pleasant sea breeze. The slow flow of island time helped my mind and body relax.

This time, we brought you Shino-jima in autumn, but in winter, pufferfish is exquisite cuisine. Shino-jima is a remote island that can be reached in about an hour from Nagoya. Why don't you take a relaxing island trip this weekend?
