A veteran chef delivers the authentic taste of Turkey

All staff are Turkish. On the left is Mr. Karayakubu, the store manager.

Along with French and Chinese cuisine, Turkish cuisine is one of the three major cuisines in the world. Turkish cuisine is said to have developed uniquely through a mixture of Western and Eastern cultures. The manager, Mr. Karayakubu, says, "There are so many varieties of Turkish cuisine that it's hard to recommend just one!"

Turkish Taste has been a long running restaurant for 18 years. Mr. Karayakubu has been the manager of the restaurant for about 6 years. He is a veteran chef who has opened a restaurant in Kobe and worked at the museum "Little World" in Inuyama city.

Turkish Taste is also a Halal certified restaurant. "Halal" means that the food has been processed in accordance with Islamic teachings and is certified as being free of food satellite and quality control problems. It is a valuable restaurant where Muslims can dine with peace of mind.

Turkish Taste's
recommended menu by Turkish chef

When you think of Turkish cuisine, many people probably think of kebabs and stretchy ice cream. Mr. Karayakub, the store manager, told me, "There are many other delicious Turkish dishes!"

From here, we will introduce recommended dishes, sweets, and drinks with a Turkish taste!

Big impact! 60 cm boat-shaped pizza "Pide (Turkish pizza)"

Mix pide ¥ 1,400 (tax included)

The pizza is too long to fit in the picture. This is a Turkish pizza called "pide". Pide is a standard dish in Turkey, but it is rare to find a restaurant that offers it in Japan.

At Turkish Taste, all pizza dough is handmade. It's an open kitchen, so it's fun to watch the food being made.

Roll out the dough first.

Put the ingredients in and cover the surroundings with the dough.

Into the oven. Bakes in about 15 minutes.

Finished with butter!

It is such a big one! They cut and serve it in easy-to-eat pieces.

Mix pide contains ground beef, vegetables, cheese and eggs.

I was told, "Dip it in the egg in the middle and eat it!"

The firm pizza dough is sticky and you can feel the sweetness of the flour. You can feel the umami of the juicy meat, and the combination of cheese and eggs gives it a rich taste that is irresistible. It's very filling, so you'll be full with just one! If you come to Turkish Taste for the first time, this is a dish you should definitely try.

The focus is on the sauce! "Doner kebab set"

Doner kebab set ¥ 1,200 (tax included)

Speaking of Turkish cuisine, kebabs are familiar to us Japanese. "Doner" in "Doner Kebab" means "rotating". At Turkish Taste, large chicken and beef kebabs are spinning in front of the counter.

Chicken on the right, beef kebab on the left

The doner kebab is grilled while being turned by a machine. When an order is placed, the meat is immediately sliced and served.

Doner kebab set can be enjoyed with butter rice and both chicken and beef. The chicken on the right side is lightly seasoned.

The beef on the left has the umami and flavor of juicy beef. It has a firm texture, and the more you chew, the more the flavor of the meat spreads throughout your mouth.

And the point is the two sauces provided with the dish. In fact, this sauce has a lot of attention to detail.

The red one is a sweet ketchup-based sauce. The white one contains green chili and is actually hotter than the red sauce. Even though it is spicy, it is not extremely hot, so please try both!

Both have garlic, which enhances the flavor of the meat beautifully. The meat itself is delicious, but the sauce gives it a different flavor. The sauce is added afterwards so that customers can choose the sauce to their liking. The sauce is so popular that some customers eat it alone with a spoon.

I love white sauce so much that I wanted to take this one home with me!

Turkish famous sweet treat "baklava"

Baracuba ¥600 (tax included)

Finally, we were served Turkish sweets. Baklava are a classic Turkish pastry. It is made by layering thin crusts of flour and baking them with nuts and nut pastes in between. The final touch is a drizzle of sweet honey.

The Turkish Taste baklava is made with honey and filled with pistachios inside. The top of the pie is crispy, while the bottom is soaked in honey and moist. Very sweet! But the rich aroma of pistachios, the sweet honey, and the crunchy texture are addictive.

Chai ¥200 (tax included)

It was served with chai. Unlike Indian chai, Turkish chai does not contain milk. Many people add sugar to their tea if they like. This time, I had it as straight tea without sugar. The sweet baklava goes well with the refreshing chai.
