Atsuta

Speaking of New Year's visit to Nagoya, Atsuta Shrine is the place to visit. It is one of the oldest shrines in the Tokai region and boasts the largest number of visitors in the Chubu region, with over 2 million people visiting the shrine each year for New Year's visit.

Atsuta Jingu is located in Atsuta Ward, Nagoya City, in a forest called Atsuta no Mori. It is an old shrine that has been around for over 1900 years and is affectionately known as "Atsuta-san" by the locals. It is also known as a power spot because Kusanagi no Tsurugi, one of the three sacred treasures, is enshrined as an object of worship.

There are three entrances, the "East Gate", "West Gate", and "Main Gate (South Gate)", and you can visit from anywhere.

New Year

It is very crowded on Sanga-nichi (the first three days of new year), so if you want to go to Atsuta Jingu Shrine, please be prepared for the crowds!

If you want to avoid the crowds, you can visit the temple on New Year's Day from 4:00 to 6:00 a.m., on January 2 and after 5:00 p.m., and on January 6 and after that time.

Although it is a small shrine, many people come to worship every day, such as women who come for the cute goshuin (red stamp) and those who come to pray for marriage. There are limited goshuin stamps depending on the season and month, and there are always 5 to 6 types available. Prices range from 300 yen to 1,000 yen, depending on the design. Basically, you can choose your goshuin from the ones posted at the shrine office, but there are also birthday limited designs that can only be given to people who have a birthday, so be sure to check them out!
