Gero Onsen (Gifu Prefecture)

Gero Onsen

With a history of more than 1,000 years, Gero Onsen is known as one of Japan's top three hot springs.

Access from Nagoya is also outstanding, and it is a hot spring area famous as a hot spring of beauty.  In addition to hot springs that make your skin smooth, there are many other attractions such as gourmet food, historic hot spring hotels, fireworks, and sightseeing spots.

The best way to get to Gero Onsen in winter is by train. If you use the limited express "Wide View Hida" on the JR Takayama Main Line, it takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes from Nagoya to Gero without changing trains. It's a perfect distance for two days and one night trip on weekends.

Shirakawago (Gifu Prefecture)

Shirakawago

In 1995, "Shirakawa-go Gassho-zukuri Village" was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The scenery of a mountain village dotted with houses with thatched roofs, surrounded by rice fields, is truly an original Japanese landscape. It has also been selected as a 3-star guidebook for foreign tourists visiting Japan, the Michelin Green Guide Japan. It is full of charm, such as a relaxing inn, gourmet food using local ingredients, and magnificent nature.

When you think of Shirakawa-go, many people may imagine “gassho-zukuri style houses with snowy scenery”, but you can enjoy the beauty of each season, such as cherry blossoms in spring, fresh greenery in summer, red leaves in autumn, and snowy scenery in winter.

Ochiudo is a gassho-zukuri cafe located right in the center of the world heritage gassho village. It is also a popular photo spot because the three gassho-zukuri houses are beautifully lined up with Ochiudo in the middle.

The cafe is a modern space filled with a sunken hearth and antique interior. The food menu consists of three items: curry, toast, and zenzai. If you are strolling in Shirakawa-go and you smell curry, it is surely Ochiudo's curry. We hope you will be lured by the smell and visit the cafe.
