[Atsuta Shrine] Taste Good Unagi Here! “Unagi Chaya Tabisuru Zou”

“Unagi Chaya Tabisuru Zou” (hereinafter referred to as Tabisuru Zou) is located near Jingumae Station in Atsuta Ward, Nagoya City. It used to be a Japanese cafe & bar, but from April 9, 2021, it will be reopened as "Unagi Chaya" where you can enjoy a menu using unagi (eel)!

Workshops are also held regularly, and it is also a place for visitors to interact.

This time, we will fully introduce the charm of the newly reborn "Tabisuru Zou".

The interior was self-renovated using scrap materials by the owner, Mr. Ito, and his friends. The plaster on the walls is a nice touch too.

Opening during COVID-19

Kaizo Ito, the owner of the shop. A former backpacker, he has a unique career that is also active as an unagi restaurant and calligrapher.

We asked you about the reason why he started the restaurant.

Mr. Ito: "The first time it happened was when I was 32 years old; my girlfriend of 10 years dumped me just before we were about to get married. From there, I quit my job, moved out of my house, and became a backpacker in order to travel in search of myself.

After traveling around Southeast Asia, the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Australia, I returned to Japan. When I was thinking about what to do after returning to Japan, I decided to work at an eel restaurant because I rediscovered the beauty of Japanese culture on my trip and I wanted to have a job and open my own restaurant.

Then the COVID-19 caused the store to close. So I decided to open my own store, and I did so right in the middle of the COVID-19."

A place where people can do what they want

Mr. Ito: "The concept we decided on when we opened the store was "a place where everyone can do what they want to do" and "a place to stop by on the journey of life. You can come here casually for lunch, or use the 2nd floor as a rental space for private exhibitions, group exhibitions, events, workshops, etc. You can also participate in workshops that interest you.

I want to make it a place where people's connections are connected. ”

From here, we will introduce the special menu of Tabisuru Zou.

Unaju (Kiwami), which uses eel luxuriously

Unaju [Kiwami] 3,800 yen (tax included)

"Unaju [Kiwami]" is slowly roasted with a secret sauce. When you open the box, the kabayaki is so spread out that you can't even see the rice, and the fragrant smell of eel is irresistible.

Takeout is also possible!

"Unagi no Jingu Omurice" born from the meal (current reservation only)

Unagi no Jingu Omurice 2,800 yen (tax included)

A menu that has never been seen before is the exquisite menu "Unagi no Jingu Omurice" made from a makanai (staff's meal) bowl. Nagoya Cochin eggs are used. The secret sauce made with red wine is thickened with potato starch and added with horseradish to give it a tangy flavor.

The combination of fluffy eggs and eel is the best. Eggs and eels are a perfect match, just like umaki rolls (egg rolls with eel)!

Homemade pickles were also very good.

"Unagi no Jingu Omurice" is limited to reservations, so let's call in advance!

"Unagi chazuke" that you want to eat at the end

Unagi chazuke

The evening menu "Unagi Chazuke" is a gem that is perfect for finishing the meal. The aroma of the charcoal fire melts into the soup stock and heals the body and mind.

Only here in Nagoya! Kuzurinko shaved ice with a new texture

Strawberry Moon 1,250 yen (tax included)

Kuzurinko shaved ice using kuzumochi, which looks beautiful, is also recommended. It uses Thai herbal tea butterfly pea, which gradually turns purple when mixed with strawberries. It is a shaved ice with kuzumochi kneaded, so it is a Japanese sweet with a new texture.

This was honestly addictive and delicious. Since it does not melt easily, it is recommended for take-out! Kuzu is also said to be very effective for weight loss and beauty.

Matcha 900 yen

In addition to Strawberry Moon, Kuzurinko also has matcha, rum raisin, brown sugar soybean flour, and a limited-time menu. You can also add toppings, so you can enjoy it with your favorite combination.

In addition to the ones introduced here, Tabisuru Zou also offers menus that use ingredients that boost your immune system and are as healthy as possible for your body. Please come and enjoy the carefully selected menu created by the owner, Mr. Ito.

In the future, he would like to create a kind of two-location lifestyle that connects the countryside and the city, as well as a place where people can enjoy themselves in nature.

Tabisuru Zou, who connect in various ways, are places that gently touch the hearts of visitors.

You can enjoy unagi, go eat kuzurinko, or take part in a workshop. The owner, Mr. Ito, has a very nice personality, so please come and visit him.
If you go to Tabisuru Zou, you are sure to meet new connections.
