[Free admission] Learn about Electricity and Energy at the "Electricity Museum" in Nagoya!
Table of Contents
Electricity is indispensable in our lives. Electricity Museum in Naka Ward, Nagoya City is a place where you can have fun learning about electricity, the environment, and energy. Opened in 1986 (Showa 61), this year marks the 35th anniversary.
There are many attractions such as "Exhibition Rooms" to explore from various angles, "Fun Experiments" to unravel the mysteries of science, and "Omu (parrot) Theater" to challenge quizzes and games on a large screen. It is a science museum that both adults and children can enjoy. It can be enjoyed even on rainy days, and admission is free.
This time, we will introduce the charm of "Electricity Museum" in its entirety.
How do I get to Electricity Museum?
Electricity Museum is a two-minute walk from Exit 4 of Fushimi Station on the Higashiyama and Tsurumai subway lines. If you come by car, there are 80 parking lots (paid).
Go to reception now! We are filling out the reception vote as a countermeasure for the COVID-19.
As proof that you have completed the form, you will receive a "Super Omu (parrot)-kun" sticker! (There are several types of stickers, so please look forward to it)
Put the sticker on your chest and enter the world of electricity!
A thorough report on the interior of Electricity Museum!
There are exhibition rooms on the 2nd to 4th floors, but let's go to the 2nd floor first.
2nd floor: Learn about the history and mechanisms of science!
Here we go! "Welcome gate" to the world of electricity | 2nd floor
The Welcome Gate introduces various energies and resources of the earth. It has been over 2,600 years since humans discovered electricity.
Get excited about the futuristic atmosphere!
If you go inside, you'll see a row of plasma balls! There are 11 of them.
When I gently touched the surface of the plasma ball, electricity discharged and gathered in my hand. I felt like a magician, being able to move electricity freely!
Tracing the History of Scientists “Discovery of Electricity” | 2nd Floor
The "Discovery of Electricity" section introduces the mechanism of electricity, tracing the history of scientists who have continued to challenge the unknown. The exhibition features an array of machines invented by great men such as Guericke's "Friction Electromotive Machine," Edison's "Edison Type Light Bulb," and Volta's "Volta's Electric Compost," among others.
It is thanks to the research of these scientists that we can use electricity today.
Let's enjoy science with experiments! "Science Plaza" | 2nd floor
"Science Plaza" is very popular with children. This is a section where you can learn about science through hands-on experience, such as "science tables" and "frustration stick".
Let's challenge the frustration stick!
I was able to reach the goal within the time limit! ! Even when you grow up, you will feel nervous about frustration sticks.
Next, let's go to the 3rd floor!
3rd floor: Learn about the work and environment of people in Electricity Company!
Renewal in October 2020! "Electric Journey" | 3rd Floor
Go to the “Electric Journey” section, which was reopened in October 2020. The theme is "A Person in Electricity Company".
The highlight is a huge diorama that reproduces the city of Nagoya, with a total length of 16m. The long journey from procuring the fuel necessary for power generation to generating electricity and delivering it to your home is realistically represented.
If you look at the diorama on the 5 monitors, you'll learn more about the structure and role of the power equipment in each area, as well as the work of the electric power workers working there!
There is also a corner where you can experience the perspective of an electric power workers working on a power transmission tower 100m above the ground.
The wind is blowing and it's swaying, so it's more real than I imagined!
You can also get on the aerial work platform and see the utility pole facilities up close from the perspective of an electric power man. I was surprised that it was such a big facility.
There is also a section where you can put on the work clothes and become an electric power worker!
Come on! With trick art, you can take pictures that look like you're actually climbing a telephone pole. This will be a nice memory.
Let's think about the future of the earth's environment and energy! "Earth and Energy"|3F
"Earth and Energy" introduces energy and global environmental issues divided into three zones: global environment, energy resources, and power generation.
Especially recommended is the "CO2 Spiral Coaster". You can learn how nature and the environment are affected by carbon dioxide while having fun.
Red balls (carbon dioxide) are accumulated by households, towns, power generation, factories, and transportation.
The red ball follows the rail to the global environmental zone.
Carbon dioxide changed its form into various impacts on the global environment (silver balls). The sight of the silver balls flowing down the river was a little scary and made me keenly aware that carbon dioxide has such a great impact on the global environment.
This exhibition is recommended as the first step for children to learn about the environment.
In addition, there is a theater using a 1/4 scale model of Unit 5 of the Hamaoka Nuclear Power Station,
There is also a corner where you can learn in a quiz format!
Challenge quizzes and games on a powerful big screen! "Omu Theater" | 3F
Next, go to the "Omu Theater", which is the most popular at Electricity Museum!
This is a theater where you can challenge various quizzes and games while controlling your own character on a large 350-inch screen.
Ohm Theater has 6 types of quizzes and games, and you can enjoy multiple games in one screening.
Advance reservations are required to attend Omu Theatre. Reservations can be made at a terminal in the museum only if seats are available on the day of the event, so if you are sure you want to attend, please make a reservation on the web before you come to the museum. If you are sure you want to attend the Omu Theatre, please make a reservation on the website before you visit the museum.
