Observe Monkeys Living in a Free Environment
North Area

“Baboon Castle” with dynamic feeding times

You can observe the movements of the monkeys from the glass windows on the wall and from the viewing deck above. Here we have the African-born Anubis baboon (Doguera baboon). The Anubis baboon is a member of the baboon family that is widely distributed slightly north of the equator in Africa, and is characterized by blackish green hair.

Currently, about 70 monkeys live in groups here.

When you hear the sounds of the keepers preparing food, everyone walks in the same direction. You may be able to see the scene where they sprinkling their food in a lively manner.

Anubis baboons also have cheek pouches, so they pick them up as they go and put them in their mouths with single-minded devotion.

You can overlook the city of Inuyama from the upper viewing deck, and the view is outstanding.

Monkey Valley

The Yakushima monkey is a subspecies of the Japanese macaque that lives only on Yakushima, Kagoshima, which is designated as a World Natural Heritage site. Compared to the Japanese macaques that live on the mainland, they are a little smaller and stockier.

A group of about 140 Yakushima macaques living on a slope of 4,000 square meters can be seen from a high observation platform. In winter, you can also see the monkeys at the "bonfire".

The monkeys spend a leisurely time around the pond, playing with jungle gyms and rocks, and grooming. Please try to find the popular baby monkey.

You can also give snacks to the Yakushima monkeys. Yakushima monkey snack 300 yen

Throw in a snack, and the monkeys, who were relaxed until just now, will start making a fuss.

Big Loop & Eco Dome where you can meet the gibbons that are characterized by loud calls and long hands

The sight of the gibbons using both hands to move at high speed on the 15m big loop at the highest point is a masterpiece.

The ecodome is a sphere-shaped cage with a diameter of 10 meters, which leads to a white building called Big Loop.

Speaking of silly gibbons, the loud cry that echoes even in the parking lot. The bag under the chin is inflated and resonates so you can make loud sounds. Just like humans, each animal has a different vocal quality, and both male and female have different vocalizations, so it's interesting to compare them.

Jeff Roy's Spider Monkey's Monkey Skyway

With an average height above ground of 6m and a total length of over 100m, you can see Jeffrey spider monkeys up close as they roam freely overhead. Geoffroy spider monkeys act dexterously with long limbs and tails like the spider that gave them their name.

When a staff member is seen, the Jeffroy spider monkeys flock in anticipation of a treat.

When the keeper threw a snack from under the bridge, they caught it skillfully while hanging on!

I was afraid they might fall off, but they were very good at it. They were eating while hanging on.

Today's snack is peanuts. If the timing is right, you can see such a rare scene.

An island of squirrel monkeys that is soothing with its cute little appearance

Bolivian squirrel monkeys are free-ranging on a small island surrounded by a water moat and covered with trees. Once on the island, visitors can get up close and personal with the squirrel monkeys as they run around the area. The squirrel monkey island is open only during limited hours, so be sure to check at the entrance gate.

Visitors can watch from around the water moat even outside of the hours when admission is allowed. Visitors can also go up the stairs to see the squirrel monkeys spending time in the trees.

Excited by the squirrel monkeys that move freely around here and there. I stared at the cute figure little by little, and I couldn't get away from it.

At the time of the interview, the squirrel monkeys were coming down to the bottom, and they were so close that I couldn't help but back away!

Although the squirrel monkeys can be seen in such close proximity, they are not allowed to interact with visitors or feed them. It is tempting to touch them, but we do it to maintain a sense of distance from the monkeys, who show us their cute appearance at close range.

Gibbon House where you can meet the popular "Kyutaro" who puts his hands on his face with a shy gesture

Three species of gibbons live here, including the white-handed gibbon. All gibbons live in the jungles of Southeast Asia, and as their name suggests, they are good at jumping from branch to branch with their long arms.

A white-handed gibbon that is as cute as a stuffed animal. It has white hands and feet.

In the wild, gibbons live in groups of male and female pairs, but in order not to be left alone, the species that is the only one at the Japan Monkey Center lives together with other species.

Among them, “Kyutaro” is popular. You might be able to show us a lovely pose that hides your right eye with your right hand.

At lunchtime, head to the comfortable and relaxing restaurant "Rakuen"
